TOP FIVE MOVIES OF 2007:

Blade Runner: The Final Cut
Shockingly, I had never seen this movie in its entirety. I'd seen bits and clips here and there, but I never bothered taking the time to give it a proper viewing. And I'm glad that I didn't, because seeing it on a giant screen was a revelation. Marci, kind woman that she is, dragged me to it (not that I needed much encouragement) knowing that I needed me some education. I don't know if it was a restored version, or if it was the benefit of seeing it projected on a huge screen, but I was absolutely blown away by the incredible attention to detail in the set and cinematography. And gracious viewer that I am, I can forgive the Rutge Hauer and the dove scene at the end.

It's Fine. Everything Is Fine!
I don't think I can call this one of the best movies I saw this year, but it is by far the most memorable. Definitely. I've seen things I can't un-see. The second movie in Crispin Hellion Glover's "It" trilogy, and it was preceded by Glover's hour-long "Big Slide Show," as narrated by the man himself, in person. I took a big nap during the Big Slide Show, but woke in time for the main attraction. It's Fine. Everything Is Fine! is Glover's adapatation of a screenplay by Steven C. Stewart, starring Steven C. Stewart. In this film, a fantasy of sorts, Stewart plays a man who seduces women, beds them, and then kills them. This is an explicit movie. Sweeping, lingering nude scenes, full frontal, both man and women, and zoom-in-close full penetration shots. Steven C. Stewart, the main star, also has severe cerebral palsy. Did I mention this is an explicit movie? And this is his fantasy, put to film?

Performance
This is the movie that set me off on a brief Nicholas Roeg tear. Mick Jagger's acting debut, in late-60's England. You gotta take two minutes to watch this trailer. Trust me, just watch it. You'll know what I'm talking about.

The Lives of Others
I know it came out in 2006, but I'm late to these sorts of things, and saw it in the theater in 2007.

Eastern Promises
David Cronenberg sure has come a long way since Videodrome, huh? Coincidentally, today I just came across this compendium of Cronenberg's movies. Of course I want to watch them all again.

WORST MOVIE OF 2007 AND POSSIBLY EVER:

Balls of Fury
Jesus fucking christ, what a waste of piece of crap. I didn't even come close to laughing once.
