[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]
Name: Okita, Sougo (or Sougo Okita) aka sadist.
Age: 18.
Gender: male
Fandom: Gintama - Anime
Timeline: Post Penpal Arc. Okita went on a date and turned the girl into a completely submissive, masochist.
History:
Wiki And since the link seems to skip out on this part, I've copied this from the actual Gintama wikipedia page:
Okita displays an annoyance and dislike of Toshiro Hijikata, and continuously tries to heavily wound, embarrass, or even kill him whenever he has the chance in order to take his rank of vice-commander. Losing his parents at a young age, he was raised by his sister, Mitsuba. Consequently, despite his sadistic personality, Okita adores his sister and does everything he can to please her. He is also very fond of Isao Kondo, who took him under his wings when he was little.
And not copied -- his sister Mitsuba passed away. Okita was pretty devastated by this, but in true Gintama fashion -- the next time he was shown, he seemed perfectly normal.
Character Personality: Okita Sougo is a sadist. This one sentence alone sums up the whole of what he is -- especially considering Gintama isn't really an anime with character depth. So 90% of the time, he is a sadist -- meaning, he takes pleasure in causing others pain, slaughters his own teammates without remorse, and especially enjoys causing the suffering of one vice commander of the Shinsengumi -- Hijikata Toshiro. He will break rules where he can and blame the results on others. He's reckless and will blow up buildings, not caring about the casualties standing between him and his desired target. Well, he does this approximately 40% of the time. 50% is spent sleeping, taking unauthorized vacations, lazing around, and ultimately not doing his job. And as you can guess, that lousy 10% is saved for witty one-liners.
But when you take the crack part of the anime out of his personality, Sougo slowly becomes a realistic character -- exaggerated realism but still... a little more fleshed out. He's capable of love and he's capable of respect, though he keeps himself guarded and distant most of the time. He's stubborn and refuses to rely on others. Caring about people is rare, and there are only about three people he considers friends.
His love for his sister has the ability to transform him into the complete opposite of his usual demeanor -- much to the amusement (and horror) of the rest of the Shinsengumi. Because he wanted to make her happy, because more than anything he didn't want to see her suffer -- Okita became a blushing, bright-eyed innocent in her presence. Unfortunately, this is probably a side no one will ever see again as Mitsuba (his sister) was rather ill and passed away during the series. Still, Okita houses a great respect for his commander -- Kondo Isao. Kondo is an idiot, but he took Okita under his wing and trained him. When Hijikata entered the picture, Okita grew jealous -- a jealousy that even to this day, he hasn't let go of. Not only did the vice-commander-to-be take Kondo's attention but Okita's sister also fell in love with him. So this factor alone shows that Okita has a bit of humanity in him -- enough to resent those who come in and take away what's important to him. While it manifests itself in a comedic manner more often than not -- in spite of how he acts, Okita does view Hijikata as a friend. And for his friends, though they are few, Okita will sacrifice everything. He willingly throws his life on the line for his commander -- though it's questionable how much of his life was on the line considering his excellent skills and talent in swordsmanship.
But as a person, he is the trolliest of trolls. Sougo is often rude or blunt with pretty much everyone while maintaining a very monotone voice. It is like 99.999999% impossible to tell whether he's joking or serious a good majority of the time, and he never seems to break face -- beyond sadistic smiles when he's about to hurt someone. His jokes can be some of the crudest and offensive, but such is the life of a comic relief character! He can be cunning as well, setting up Hijikata into traps. One arc in particular, he managed to trick Hijikata into being kicked out of the Shinsengumi -- seemingly with the motive to take his spot. However, in the end, it was only so that he could spy on the man who originally wanted to get rid of Hijikata and take over the Shinsengumi for himself, and also to put himself in a place to protect Kondo.
Character Abilities: Okita doesn't really have any special skills beyond the normal human abilities (not counting some of the crack episodes where he has a sadist mode). As far as fighting goes, he's an excellent swordsman (one of -- if not -- the best in the country)... very proficient and quick with his blade. He makes clean kills and he has the speed and agility -- as well as the bloodlust -- to be one of the Shinsengumi's very best. Okita is also very good with fire arms -- in particular, his bazooka. It has been the cause of much damage and comedic scenes, though for some reason he seems to miss his target a good percentage of the time. Maybe he's really horrible at aiming? Haha. Or maybe the bazooka sucks! But either way, he seems to be pretty good at technology.
Okita's a quick learner. He can pick up just about anything rather easily -- including the robot dance! While he might seem lazy, there's evidence from a short clip in the series that he was actually very determined to learn to fight as a child. So headcanonly from this scene, I imagine that if there's something Okita wants to learn...he will practice and practice until he perfects it.
He's level-headed for the most part. He can keep calm in the most unnerving of situations. It's very rare to see Okita lose his head. He also seems to have a talent for asserting his dominance -- not sure if that counts as an ability or not, haha. But he was on a date and managed to get the girl to completely submit to him after the first 10-15 minutes or so -- walking around with a chain attached to a collar and calling him master. Maybe it's all part of his 'sadist mode.' Or maybe these last couple sentences are something that should be completely disregarded. Yeah, I think that's more like it. ;x
Character Weaknesses: Sougo's largest weakness is his crippling inability to relate to others. He purposely puts up a wall around himself, and stubbornly refuses to let anyone tear it down. It could be abandonment issues -- his parents did die at a young age. His general apathy doesn't allow anyone to tell what he's thinking, and generally he seems to lack in all aspects of compassion. You could almost say that he's cold. We definitely do know he's a sadist, so causing others physical pain or mental anguish are things that he takes pleasure in -- which I suppose you could consider a strength, but it's going in weaknesses because it's a character flaw and what kishin eggs are made of~!
He's quick to kill which is another flaw. Okita acts first and thinks later -- if at all. There are several times when he's run into Katsura (a wanted 'terrorist') -- and in practically every meeting, he attacked him immediately. He cares little for property damage and can be considered completely reckless -- if casualties happened as a result, that would be their fault really for getting in the way.
LAZY. Sougo is lazy. He hates working. He tends to sleep on the job, or not do his job at all, or take unsanctioned vacation time so that he doesn't have to do his job. How does he still have a job?? Well. Fanservice, that's how! But seriously, he is a good fighter and he had grown up with his commander, so really that is probably why he's allowed to stick around in the Shinsengumi. Here in Death City, it won't be an easy ride for him.
[ SOUL CAMPAIGN SECTION ]
What are the abilities that your character will retain in Soul Campaign? Actually, I think Sougo will retain all of his abilities. His fighting levels aren't off the charts as far as some shounen mangas go. There's nothing supernatural about his fighting -- it's still very human...minus the episode where he managed to slice a car in half with his sword (but that was extenuating circumstances -- his sister was dying and he was revenge killing).
What are the weaknesses that your character will lose or gain in Soul Campaign? Again, the same weaknesses will probably apply. The only difference is that he doesn't have the protective shell of the Shinsengumi to keep him employed -- so he will definitely have to rework his personality if he hopes to maintain a job -- say in the Watch. Also, working with a partner will definitely be a challenge for him. Sougo is not the type of guy who relies on people -- so this will be a damaging thing when he tries to fight and realizes he can't.
[ MEISTER ONLY SECTION ]
Why your character should be a Meister: Sougo's an S. By nature, he's the one calling the shots and inflicting the damage. He would be best suited as a meister because it's the way he can bring the most pain. Not only that, he's a fantastic fighter with excellent control over weapons. It would be a shame to not have someone who's able to adapt so easily to many different weapons be anything other than a meister. There's more freedom for him to fight as a meister as opposed to as a weapon. Even if he was a bladed weapon and had a partial-weapon mode, he wouldn't be nearly as good as if you handed him a sword and had him fight. -- and it would probably be a lot more dangerous because he'd be prone to stabbing people with his awesome new blade arm. /shifty eyes.
Meister Ability:
Soul Menace - To be able to drive ones soul wavelength into someone else? Sougo would so be all over that, even if it would mean he was done with the battle immediately because he doesn't know how to use it, haha. There was a parody episode which really turned out to be a dream, but in it...Sougo turned into this giant creature and shot a blast out at the enemy...and then just melted after one, unsuccessful attack. Haha, I could very much picture him using Soul Menace in this same way -- burst of wavelength in the beginning of a fight, pause, ...."ah. Seems like I used up everything." But my own wishes aside, I feel that this is the most violent of the meister abilities and considering that Sougo is a sadist, the more violent and painful his ability to others...the better suited it is for him.
[ SOUL INFORMATION ]
Soul Description: sadistic, reckless, strong, lazy, anti-social, apathetic
Soul Appearance: Soul? What soul? Ha. Ha. Ha. But seriously, Sougo's soul is dark blue and appears apathetic for the most part. The only thing that separates it from the generic, cookie-cutter souls is that it has a bowl cut that matches his.
