[Background]
Vamp was born in Romania and his family was quite religious. During a church service one day, terrorists bombed the church, leaving Vamp's family (as well as the other patrons) for dead. Vamp himself was pierced through the heart with a crucifix and trapped beneath the rubble. In order to survive, Vamp spent two days drinking his family's blood; two days later, he was dug out from the wreck. Since that day, he has not stopped drinking blood.(I really wish I was making this up...) He trained to become a master of close combat; skilled in martial arts and fighting with knives. He eventually joined a faction known as Dead Cell.

Dead Cell is a former counter-terrorist unit founded by US President George Sears. The group was originally made in order to counter terrorist attacks against embassies and military bases in order to train Navy SEALs and Marines in anti-terrorist missions. Dead Cell rapidly became an extremist group once their (original) leader died, turning into a terrorist faction. Dead Cell was responsible for the deaths of thousands. The Patriots lead a campaign against Dead Cell, eliminating the majority of the group and leaving only three members -- Vamp being one of them.

Solidus Snake (George Sears) selected the remaining members of Dead Cell to assist him and the Sons of Liberty in taking over Big Shell in order to steal Arsenal Gear. The Sons of Liberty were a terrorist faction founded by Sears consisting of Revolver Ocelot and Olga Gurlukovich with her army of mercenaries.

Big Shell was a giant, off-shore facility built for cleaning up a mass amount of oil that had been left when a tanker sank. The facility had quickly become a landmark for environmental protection. The president at the time, James Johnson, was taking a tour of the facility when he found himself captured by Dead Cell, being lead by a man named Solid[us] Snake. The group seized control of the facility and held the president (along with several other men and women) hostage. They demanded $30 Billion in cash and if their demands were not met, they would destroy Manhattan with a nuclear missile. Raiden was sent in to rescue the President (whether or not Raiden is a Bad Dude is up for debate.)

The thing about Big Shell (which Raiden would find out; it didn't really affect Vamp too much) was that it was actually a ploy by the Patriots. Something known as "S3", which Ocelot believed to mean "Solid Snake Simulation"; trying to create a training program to train an army of Solid Snake clones. This wasn't exactly the case -- S3 actually stood for "Selection for Societal Sanity". By manipulating information that surrounded the incident, The Patriots proved they could manipulate world events. The whole thing was done to recreate the events of Shadow Moses in order to train Raiden to be the perfect soldier; Dead Cell playing the "role" of FOXHOUND in this scenario, the Gurlukovich mercenaries played the role of the Genome soldiers.

Dead Cell's members were but four people (just as FOXHOUND had been). Solidus Snake (George Sears) to lead them, a bombs expert named Fatman, a woman named Fortune (who lead the group; her deceased husband was the founder of Dead Cell) and Vamp himself. Fatman was nothing more than a Patriot spy sent to evaluate Raiden, however, Vamp had quite the extensive history with Fortune. Vamp was the former lover of Fortune's deceased father, Scott Dolph. Vamp and Fortune formed a very close friendship; whether or not he took the woman as a lover or not is unknown.

The first time Vamp saw Raiden, the man was far too distracted playing with a team of SEALs. Mercilessly killing the entire unit, Raiden got to watch in a combination of shock and awe as men were slashed apart. The second (and proper) encounter Vamp had with Raiden was during a battle with Dead Cell’s leader, Fortune, inside of Strut-A. Raiden’s bullets were deflected by Fortune’s electro-magnetic force field so when Vamp came down to confront Raiden, he fired off a few shots at Fortune -- which veered around her (thanks to the field) and hit him between the eyes as well as stomach. Fortune stopped fighting, seeing her trusted companion fall and Raiden was quick to flee. Fortune held Vamp’s body and a mere moment later, Vamp opened his eyes, telling the woman to stop crying; he’d already died once, he couldn’t die again. Vamp and Raiden proceeded to fight twice more throughout this mission -- once more in Core-B and then again on Strut-L, where Vamp proceeds to take the life of yet another innocent victim; the stepsister of Hal Emmerich, Emma.

Five years later, Vamp allies himself with Liquid Ocelot and the Patriots. Snake spotted Vamp while he was tracking Naomi, trying to rescue her. Snake spotted Vamp and Naomi boarding a helicopter and Snake figured now was as good a time as any to shoot Vamp in the head again. Vamp went down, only to rise again moments later. Soon after this, Vamp fought Raiden, whom inflicted massive damage to him but as everyone was quickly learning -- you can't keep a good killer down.

[Personality]
Most of the time Vamp is very calm. He's collected, silent and alert. Although he's a mercenary, he's still a soldier. As such, he's very commanding and dominant; his fast reflexes and sharp mind allow him to stay in control of just about any situation. Despite his docile demeanor when in a position of authority, Vamp is incredibly dangerous and unpredictable. A deeply violent man, Vamp seeks his thrills through pain. A sadist who gets a kick out of slitting throats but also a masochist -- desperately seeking someone who can hold up against him in a fight, someone who just might actually be able to kill him. On the battlefield, Vamp is completely charged; the taste of blood, the smell of fear and the caress of steel excite him like nothing else.

As a mercenary, Vamp does what he needs to in order to survive. As a soldier he understands how to take orders but isn't always compliant. There are but a small handful of people in the world capable of controlling Vamp and those are the people he's pledged absolute loyalty towards. Although he's working for Liquid Ocelot, Vamp's only true master at this time is the woman who's keeping him alive -- Naomi Hunter. The nano machines which keep his body functioning and give him the ability to regenerate are a direct result of her research. As such, he owes his life to Naomi and is more than willing to accept whatever order she gives him.

Overall, Vamp is not very likeable. His violent and aloof nature is enough to keep most away, however, there is one part of his personality deep inside that sharply contrasts everything he puts on for the outside. Strange as it is, Vamp has a rather passionate and almost caring side. Only in the presence of certain people who have earned his trust and loyalty though (good luck).

[Specialties/Abilities]
Originally thought to have "some freak super natural powers", most of Vamp's abilities can be explained through horribly contrived technology that Kojima uses as an excuse to retcon things Van Der Waals Force technology. Although the man can run up walls, cling to ceilings and even walk on water, all of these "powers" are a result of the technology inside his gloves and boots.

Vamp has the ability to take hits that would kill any normal human without even batting an eye. The nano machines inside his body give him the ability to regenerate. How long it takes him depends on the severity of the wounds inflicted but a few dozen stab wounds or a bullet between the eyes only takes about a minute or two to heal over. Yeah, it's... pretty much impossible to kill him (anyone is welcome to try though.) Nano machines may also be responsible for Vamp's heightened sense of awareness; he can sense every twitch of a muscle and blink of an eye - giving him quite the edge in a fight, when he knows his enemy's movements before they do. He's also able to sense emotions (although, whether or not he cares is another story). Another (possible) effect of the nano machines is Vamp's body temperature. It appears to be considerably colder than a normal human's, allowing him to not only survive easily in cold climates (but that could just be an anti-freezing peptide that was injected into him along with the nano machines. This seems to only happen in MGS2 and is never seen in MGS4, but I figured I should include it in. It might explain his desire to wear a leather trench coat in South America.)

HE ALSO IS A MASTER WITH KNIVES, HOLY SHIT. HE MOVES WITH ALL THE GRACE AND ELEGANCE OF A GAZELLE.

[Affection] Hands off. Although he's a very sexual creature, anything and everything must be on Vamp's terms -- and when Vamp wants something, he won't ask, he'll simply take. Don't try the same with him though because you're likely to lose a limb. However, if he pledges his loyalty to someone, they're free to touch or embrace him in any way they deem fit. Good luck with that.

[Fighting] Vamp can, and will, kill you six times before you hit the ground. Unless you're Raiden, then it's hard to figure out who's killing who. Vamp is likely to be relatively docile around most people but he could potentially snap at any given moment so it's best for others to engage him with caution. Treat him with respect and you’ll likely remain unharmed (unless you’re Raiden). If you happen to have a gun though, aim for his head -- that really pisses him off but will buy you about a minute and a half to get away.

[Other Facts] Vamp adores the taste of blood but does not require it for sustenance. HE IS ALSO A RAGING BISEXUAL.

Vamp wears a set of five dog tags around his neck but only one of the tags is his own. The other four belong to the three deceased members of Dead Cell (Fortune, Fatman, Solidus) and the last is suspected to belong to his former lover, Dolph.
