freedom and the final countdown

So today I went out to lunch and coffee with Alain at Dukem, where we made some shop-talk and some life-talk. Afterwards we went to this great little gallery near Penn Station. There I switched between trying to understand what he and his friends from France were talking about (mostly about the work hanging there and the apparently shitty new president of France), chatting with the gallery owner's wife that spoke English, and playing with the TOTALLY FUCKIN CUTE BABY they have. It was a really great little outing.

The funny thing that just hit me is related to the whole new professional life I'm facing now. Alain wants to work with me on a comic, and up until now I've been kind of treating it like another homework assignment. But no, this is real-world work. I have to bring it. Thinking about it is making my head spin.
