Funny how things can change so fast. First off, let me explain how this all started. As you may know, the Wind Symphony performed at an invitational at Stetson University last month. One piece featured Mike Rice and I as soloists. Now apparently at Stetson they are in need of trumpet players, and I happened to catch the eye of the music director, Dr. Bobby Adams. Mr. Allen approached me and he talked to me about maybe considering Stetson University if it were not too late, as the director was impressed with me and might be able to offer me scholarship money. "No way", I thought. I had been wanting to go to FSU ever since my brother had gone there when I was a small child. I forgot about it for several weeks. During this time, admissions people were bugging the guidance counselor and calling me every once in a while making sure I wasn't interested. Then Dr. Adams called my house and talked with my parents. He said he was looking to see how much money he could give me to come to Stetson. I still thought nothing of it. After all, I was already set on FSU and there was no possible way anybody could convince me to go anywhere else. Or so I thought. A few minutes before I left for the spring concert on Thursday, I got another call from Dr. Adams. This time he said that he talked to the Dean of Admissions, and was able to offer me a full tuition plus fees scholarship amounting to 27,500 dollars. I about shit my pants. FSU hadn't offered me anything, and now Stetson was practically begging for me to come there. I talked for him for about 20 minutes about my future, and the advantages of Stetson. I thanked him for this wonderful opportunity and told him I would get back to him very soon with a final decision after I consulted with my parents and teachers. Of course, I knew I would be hard-pressed to find a better offer anywhere else. After talking to Mr. Allen, Mr. Hinkle, My brother, and his wife, I made my decision to go to Stetson. Looking into this deeper, I am convinced that Stetson will offer me more opportunities and attention than FSU will. Sorry to all those who were expecting my company up there (Lynn), but I really can't pass this up. Besides, It's closer to Sebastian, so my parents agreed to let me take da shagin' wagon there. I can then visit nearby UCF and even visit all my homies at UF from time to time. I still can't believe how lucky I am that this all came into place at the very end like this. I think it happened for a reason, and I believe that I will be very happy there. I'm gonna go flex my muscles in front of a mirror, so I'll talk to everyone later.
