As I was driving to work this morning I turned on the radio and tuned into 101.1 to listen to Drew and Mike. When I began to realize what they were speaking about I was shocked. Apparently they had this man who owns a local business on the phone. This man has many Muslim customers and, in the most twisted sense of logic ever, has decided that, although he is not Muslim, he will ban the eating of pork by employees in the employee lunchroom. He states that by doing so he is respecting the Muslim culture. I am all for respecting other cultures, but in America, where people came to start a new culture in which it wasn't wrong or right to abide by whatever means you wished, it seems that minority factions are beginning to think that since they have been persecuted in the past they deserve more respect now to make up for the lack of the past. Back to the pork in the lunchroom. Have you ever heard of such an assinine workplace rule? No one, not even Muslim employees of this particular business, had made any mention about the consumption of pork in the employee lunchroom. I just can't see how this can be justified. The owner brought up a particular employee who had a ham sandwich consistently for lunch. This woman, like most Americans, aren't worried about offending people when they pack their lunch. They are thinking of how good their damned ham sandwich is going to be for lunch. Respect is a two way street. If you can't respect that some other woman is eating a ham sandwich then that woman should not have to respect the fact that your belief system does not allow the consumption of pork. It is very common for that person having another person's beliefs thrust upon them to comply with that system for as long as that person is around. This creates a problem though. Generally speaking, when a person gets the feeling that another person will willingly adjust to his/her needs they begin to get greedy. They ask for more and more. Point in case: About a month ago some prince from Saudi Arabia flew into Texas to meet with the president (yes, lower case). This prince made a demand that all the women presently at that particular airport be removed or he would remain on the plane and not keep his audience. Of course the 'Americans' complied. This is not the worst thing that could happen. I just don't understand how these people can think they are better than anyone else, how that prince thought he was better than every one of those women he had removed from the premises. All relgious affiliation, racial distinctions, and political preferences aside I honestly believe that not one individual is better than any other. Sure, we all have different skills making us seemingly more important to some, but as human beings we are all equally as important. Some 'human beings' seem to lose sight of that fact. Feel free to discuss your feelings on this topic.
Basketball game wasn't quite as good as I had anticipated. We lost 29-10. To a 3rd and 4th grade team. No big deal though. They had some good talent on that other team and probably only made it to the losers losers bracket because they were a bit small. The other coach was a real bonehead though. At one point in the second quarter one of my guys was on the line shooting free throws and he calls his entire team over to his bench. At this point the ref informs him that he needs to have at least two guys lined up for the free throw. He disagrees with the ref and so the ref hits him with a delay of game and he takes a time out. After the time out he still insists that all his guys stay over by the bench and the ref hits him with a tech. After they were about 14 points up on us I informed the ref of the rule of this tournament that at a 10 point lead you can't double team outside of the three point line. He said he'd look out for it, but I expected the other coach to know the damned rule because he was a coach for a team at the school hosting the tournament- St. Bartholomew. Anyways, their coach never made any mention of it to his players because they continued to do so, and at one point they even triple teamed one of our guys outside the three point line. Needless to say, I would never go back to that tournament. Two of the three teams we played were incredibly bad sports with no concern for playing their bench players with a double digit lead. Two of my players also got hurt pretty badly yesterday. They got all jumbled up while trying to defense a layup on a fastbreak and ended up landing on their heads. It was a scary moment. I have to call them today to see if they're alright.
If I don't see you before we celebrate the coming of the New Year I wish you a safe and happy time. Get drunk for the Gipper.
I wonder how the men of Troyaccuse! are fairing.
