round 7: BTVS, Too Old To Die Young, Giles
What can I say about Rupert Giles? No I'm not going to do the whole Mean Girls reference, promise. I am going to try and condense nine seasons of tv and comic into a not giant intro though. I was nine when Buffy first started, and so obviously I desperately wanted Giles to be my father. The darker aspects of his character they revealed in the later seasons only made him more well rounded as a character in my opinion. He was Buffy's watcher, her father figure( No matter what stupid Maggie Walsh says), and a pretty sexy fuddy duddy. He was expected to follow the family tradition of becoming a Watcher but rebelled in his twenties, chosing to become involved with some less than fantastic people and the dark arts. After a bad situation with a demon named Eyghon he accepted his duty as a Watcher.
Moving to Sunnydale he became Watcher to Buffy Summers, has a tragic relationship with a technopagan computer science teacher named Jenny Calendar and plays father figure to all the Scoobies. Giles also serves as Watcher for Kendra and Faith Lehane for a short time. He is fired after interfering with the Watcher's council on behalf of Buffy but continues to help her through the rest of the series. He eventually buys the Magic Shop and runs it with Anya through the last three seasons. I won't get into the comic seasons because so many people haven't read them, but there is a Faith and Giles storyline that I adore in which they team up to find rogue slayers and keep them from the path that Faith walked.
This mix changed at least three times, it started out as heavily classic rock, and then there was the All Supertramp edition before I finally settled on this. I almost broke out my Four Star Mary for you guys. I chose this route because though these songs are slower and seemingly more simple, there's so much going on just under the surface in regards to layers and instrumental aspects. I'm going to stop rambling now, geeze, how do you guys even manage to get through all my intros?
