"And every pop song on the radio is suddenly speaking to me." - Ani Difranco

Well, not pop exactly, and not the radio, but yes. These are all more evocative with their tunes; that's what makes them songs. I play and sing them all on the guitar.

1) Gerry Gregg
‘Cause I love you
like the junkie loves the bottle
And I need you
like the soldier needs a war
And at the end of
the buzz and the bloodshed
I just pray
that I’ll know what it’s for.

I’ve blinded myself not to see you
Though I’ve searched for you all of this time
And when I think that your eyes are upon me
I circle back to the end of the line.

‘Cause I love you
like the sinner loves the judgement
And I need you
like Christ needs the poor
And at the end of
the sin and the salvation
I just pray
that I’ll know what it’s for.

It’s taken one thousand deaths and a lifetime
to even catch just a shadow of your face
And when I feel your love descend upon me
I’ll bow my head while I’m burned by your grace.

Then I’ll love you
like the desert loves the rainfall
And I’ll need you
like a prison needs a door
And at the end, which is always a beginning,
I just know that it’s what I’ll pray for.

2) David Francey
Well I saw myself once as clear as day
Took a look in the mirror and I turned away
And it left me wondering what I'm gonna do
If I can't, if I can't get, if I can't get over you.

And the sound of the siren through the window wide
And the moan of the city and the dark outside
And it might be over but it won't be true
If I can't, if I can't get, if I can't get over you.

And the room that you gain is more emptiness
And the sound of the rain on the window glass
And the clock on the wall says ten to two
And I can't, and I can't get, and I can't get over you.

Well I saw myself once as clear as day
Took a look in the mirror and I turned away
And it left me wondering what I'm gonna do
If I can't, if I can't get, if I can't get over you.

3) Ani
You give me that look that's like laughing
With liquid in your mouth
Like you're choosing between choking
And spitting it all out
Like you're trying to fight gravity on a planet that insists
That love is like falling and falling is like this

Feels like reckless driving when we're talking
It's fun while it lasts and it's faster than walking
No one is going to sympathize when we crash
They'll say you hit what you head for, you get what you ask
And we'll say we didn't know, we didn't even try
One minute there was road beneath us, and the next just sky

I'm sorry I can't help you
I cannot keep you safe
I'm sorry I can't help myself
So don't look at me that way
Like you're trying to fight gravity on a planet that insists
That love is like falling and falling is like this.
