- PANIC! AT THE DISCO'S FALL TOUR! I'm insane. I think I can manage the Sacramento date without cleaning out my savings, missing any bill payments, or getting in trouble with my job. Therefore, I think I'm going! Still waiting to see what the ticket packages look like before I book flights and hotel, but I've never been to Sacramento and the venue ( Read more... )

when i was a bird and you were a map, knitting, sg-1, heroes, bandom, i go to concerts now

Nearly ALL of the SG-1 fic I remembered to read before "OMG BENTON FRAISER" is from Paian . And I should possibly not remind myself how awesome her stuff is when I am unable to add anything to my ebook! TIMING FAIL, ME!

(oddly, this is the ONE fandom where I read more HET than slash - Daniel/ Sam. There's something about those matching blue eyes and overly smart brains that get me every time. And Daniel/ Cam! Not that I don't love Jack....)

Well, I can't help you with any het. I never took to Sam, she was too perky and I stopped watching ages before Vala showed up (except for the odd ep here and there).

There's something about the way Sam's perkiness overlays that sharp-edged intellect and simmering angst that I've always found appealing, but then again, I got to know her first over on SGA, at which point she'd developed some sort of "been there, done that, have the scars to prove it" gravity. But MOST of the het in the fandom seems to be Sam/ Jack, and it's a pairing I sort of vehemently avoid - I get that it's where the SHOW wants us to go, but I don't tend to enjoy those pairings where the people deeply care about each other and WANT different things. It's why I cringe at BONES and CASTLE

I can't say I've ever forgotten that we don't have space fighters, but we should, right? I would be okay with fewer minds concentrating on making tiny, shiny cell phones and more of them on refining manned space flight. Like that t-shirt that says something about the fact that we were promised flying cars.

(As much love as I had for SG-1, I am pretty useless on the Daniel rec front. Something about... and now I can't even remember his name, the dude who plays him, bugs me. But I support your love, in the nonspecific not-being-helpful sense! I think troyswann wrote Jack/Daniel and maybe some gen, but I've never read any of it.)

I occasionally have overinvestment in FICTION issues. Once upon a time, I was watching the actualfax news, and they had actualfax President George W. Bush saying something obnoxious, and I had a moment when I realized that The West Wing's President Bartlett wasn't the REAL PRESIDENT. And then I was sad.

Extra points: I was working on a degree in Political Science at the time!

(DANIEL: I've got a bit of a bulletproof thing for ANGSTY and DAMAGED, especially when paired with OVERLY EARNEST. Though I do have a fondness for CAM that the rest of the fandom doesn't seem to understand)

Cam is my favorite as long as I avoid any and all interviews with actual Ben Browder. He was sort of a stupid puppy while simultaneously getting most of the good angst in his seasons, and since he is apparently the only person with actual friends and family to ever pass through the SGC, there was lots of excellent secret-keeping fodder. (The episode, which was probably a glorified clip show, IDEK? with his terminally ill friend, OMG.)

I remember an ep in season 9, somewhere, where Vala takes over Daniel's body and tells everyone what happened to her on the Ori planet, and Cam was blinking back tears, and THAT MOMENT, RIGHT THERE. Cam Mitchell, I love you forever. And some moment in Continuum, where he's just so LONELY.

OTOH, Browder is the world's most hilariously faily reader of audiobooks. And Micheal Shanks was actually VERY GOOD in all of the SG-1 audio dramas and the novel he audiobooked.

Okay, but I'm guessing that on SG1 the average citizen doesn't KNOW about the space fighters, right? So we totally have space fighters to protect us! They are just top secret. *nods*

I think they'd tell Jack O'Neill about their secret space fighters? Or he'd stumble upon them and be all nonplussed and snarky?

OTOH, this is maybe the first time I've been happy to contemplate the military secrets they are hiding from us! Secret space fighters. For the inevitable attack of life sucking aliens. Got it.
