Randomly:

Hey, Sanctuary people, did we all know that Tesla is the same guy that played Parrish on SGA? 'Tis true! (nice makeover, Parrish!) And that the actor playing Watson is a pole vaulting trampolinist who plays the flute? This is trufax . Apparently, he is also on Highlander, which is one of those shows my mother always had a near- ( Read more... )

Yep. Tanith too. It's like they have a few dozen actors on speed dial, so it's the same people over and over.

Picturing Tanith as a pole vauliting trampolinist who plays the flute is even funnier!

I am sorry you don't love, BSG, for I love it, indeedly. Leoben is a total creep, though. I see why he would put a person off. For whatever reason, my fannish psyche likes to treat him like a cat that brings home many dead things. Wrong! But still ♥. IDK.

I don't know why the octagons, but there is sure a hell of a pile of triangles in Vancouver somewhere...

I keep trying to love BsG, but it's just not working. It sort of makes me realize that for some odd reason, I need television to be aspirational: it's not enough to have the people on TV just be smarter and funnier and FAR better looking than regular people! I want to believe they actually are better people, too. And BsG is full of so many people that are so realistically mean to each other that it's painful.

Loeben scares me so badly I almost didn't watch dS because I couldn't imagine seeing his face and not freaking out (I had seen the first three seasons of BsG this spring before watching dS this summer). I'm very glad I did, because it took about 5 minutes of Kowalski before I totally forgot to be scared of him, but Leoben isn't getting any easier.

Yeah, I hear that. I like it for the massive grey areas, myself, but lots of folks find it off-putting. No denying it's well-done, I think... it takes something to either draw people in or put people off that strongly.

Leoben is one scary s.o.b. I like him and I was crying for the whole New Caprica arc in season three, so. Yeah. Bravo, Callum, you have perfected that crazy mofo allure. *g*

Ray is too adorable not to love. The thing that makes Callum a GREAT actor is how he inhabits different roles. I swear to god Ray LOOKS different than Leoben, and I'm not just talking age. Mannerisms, movement, the look in his eye... everything is switched.

I think I just need one person who I can unconditionally love. I can gray area the rest of the cast, but I need someone who makes me swoon and smile and squee. I get close with Apollo, from time to time, as he is a pretty angsty woobie with daddy issues that at least seems to feel honestly bad when he's mean to people, but then it slips a little, or there's so much other going on that it gets lost ( ... )

Turns out, falling hard for Ray Kowalski doesn't make me any less freaked out by Leoben!

Oh, thank you! So much of DS fandom is squeeful about BSG, and I'm all, "No! Not my kind of show!" *hides* It's nice to know that my irrational nervousness of it is justified, at least somewhat. :-)

And the thing is, I STILL watch it! I did the first three seasons this spring, before I met Fraser and Ray, and when I just knew that people from my flist liked Callum because of the Mountie show. But he scared me so much I was iffy on even watching Due South, since everyone I know is all about Kowalski. I was thinking Ray K would still scare me, and then I wouldn't be able to show my lj face in the fandom.

Ray K = adorable! Leoben = still scary as all get out!

I think BSG the only show I have a totally irrational lack of enthusiasm for - I know it's good and important, and I LIKE sci-fi, so that's not it. I just want people to be nice on the television!

Whereas I'm not a huge scifi fan, and I prefer happy shows with, yes, at least one likeable character (or assholish in an emphathisable way, cf David Sandstrom in ReGenesis, McNulty in The Wire). So I find it very easy to avoid BSG. And it's nice to meet someone with a lack of enthusiasm for it -- it makes me feel less like I'm missing out on something. ;-)

I just want people to be nice on the television!

Me too!
