Haphazard thinky thoughts from the First Season

I  got the First Season DVD-boxset of Supernatural as a gift at the end of last year. Sadly, there are a slew of other things demanding my attention, but I'm slowly but surely going through the episodes in my quest to see what sort of funny/curious/freaky details one can spot. That is, assuming one can look at something other than the boys. ;)

There's also a file on my computer where it's become a sort of a habit of mine to jot down ideas and thoughts and theories.
And, before the Second Season can completely ruin my ideas, I thought I'd get them out there in the ether.

There's a dreamcatcher in the Impala's trunk. Even in the Pilot. Accompanied by prayer beads/necklace made out of white and blue Evil Eye beads, which, you know, are believed to ward off all sorts of evil things...

Sam doesn't react in any way to Dean's amulet, even though it's clearly in view for most of the time.
In my opinion, that means that it's supposed to be there, that Dean had it even before Sam left for Stanford, or that Sam doesn't think it's weird for Dean to wear jewelry.

Sam/Jared Padalecki keeps constantly trying to appear smaller than he is. He's a huge man, but the only time he sticks out the way he 'should' is when they put him next to a petite person (ie. Meg). Whenever he's interacting with people not a threat/family, Sam sits down, kneels, hunches, draws his shoulders in, positions himself so that he's at least on the eye-level with his partner, if not looking up like a puppy.
His clothing and hairstyle during the First Season aid in the creation of that illusion: loose, 'overlarge' shirts, baggy pants, layers. And that boyish hair which, I swear, makes me think he's closer to 15 than 25...
That habit of hiding his true stature, I believe, reveals when he feels he's in control, when he's calm, when he knows where all the pieces are. When there's no threat, no need to be aggressive. (Sadly, the best examples of this come from episodes of the Second Season, which I'd like to keep out of this for now.)

From Dead In The Water (1x03)
Sam: There are cases going through a traumatic experience could make people more sensitive to premonitions, psychic tendencies-
At which point, I burst out laughing, because no one's definitely talking about themselves here...;)

In Home (1x09), one of the photos (both Jenny and Dean look at it), shows Mary and John standing together against a backdrop of water and forest. One can see a string around John's neck, and it's definitely not the ballchain of dogtags. In fact, it looks rather similar to the string of Dean's amulet. And there's something hanging off it, but I can't make out what it is.

The mytharc-episodes begin with Home (1x09), far as I'm concerned. Excepting, of course, the Pilot (1x01).

The boys seem to have a thing for saving/trying to help single parents and their families.

Kripke and company have proven themselves to have a knack for twisting words.
I just didn't realize, before rewatching the First Season, just how long they've practiced it. I mean, Meg in Scarecrow (1x11)?
Sam: What happened to your ride?
  Meg: I cut him loose.

I'm sure there are theories a-plenty about Sam's abilities out there. What I'd like to know is if anyone else has voiced the idea that Sam's single bout of telekinesis might have been brought about by his vicinity to Max?
I mean, of all the PsyKid-abilities we've heard of so far, only Sam's seems to lack any offensive application.
So I wonder...what if Sam's special, even among the PsyKids, in that he may 'attune' to their abilities? That he's sort of a magnifying glass, something through which the others' powers may be focused and/or redirected?
This would also explain the Demon's taunt in Devil's Trap (1x22):
"That'd be a neat trick. In fact, here, make the gun float for you, Psychic Boy."

Why didn't the boys' police records list John and/or Mary, any other possible relatives? (I have no idea of the way police records work, so...)
Has John Winchester been MIA long enough for the police records to be wiped, or to never have been added? Since the 80s, like Mr Guenther in Home (1x09) suggested?
Or do the records only list the next of kin, and for Sam, that's always been Dean?

Before I read
feline_fury1's meta on Dean on a downward spiral, I didn't know that Dean wears elephant hair bracelets, which are supposed to be protective accessories. He has two of them. Not anymore during the Second Season, though.
Why did I note them? Because during the First Season, Dean still has two living relatives, two people for whom he'd do anything. But things change with the seasons...(and the skullbeads of a single bracelet might just be a metaphor for the fatalism Dean may feel during the Second Season, worried sick over the fact that he may have to, one day, kill the only person of his family still alive besides himself.)
