"Storm's Coming": Trying to see the War
I began writing this hellbent on going through the last episodes of Season Two where the War/Storm was referred to.
However, since I'm a scatterbrain, this ended up more as a ramble going off-tangent. *sigh*
I'm also a spoilerphobe. I know nothing about Season Three. Save that there's Sam and Dean and the Impala. *sighs contentedly*
I'd highly appreciate if you would kindly leave spoilers out of the comments. Thank You. :)
Croatoan
This bit me one beautiful day and just wouldn't go away, and since it has, kind of, something to do with the War, I'm including it here.
I've seen a number of posts and comments wondering about the function of the virus in Croatoan (2x09).
If "the Winchester boy" was expected to be immune, if the superior of BED!Duane was the YED, why bother with this experiment?
The similarity of the "call home"-scene near the end of Croatoan was a dead ringer for the one seen at the end of Scarecrow (1x11). Down to the knife BED!Duane slashed Sarge's throat with, and the cup he used to call his contact.
But what if that was just a red herring?
What if the demon behind the virus of that episode was not the YED, but rather a rival?
What if Croatoan/Rivergrove was the creation of the YED's competitor, another demon? And Sam's immunity served merely as a verification that the YED had gotten to him? That they had suspected Sam to be one of the YED's chosen, but could not be sure?
I've also seen a number of wonderings about what those few drops of blood the YED dribbled on Sam(and co.)'s lips did. Are they the source of Sam's powers, the flash of yellow in the baby's eyes a signal that something was switched 'on', like a similar flash in Jake's eyes in All Hell Breaks Loose Part Two (2x22) seems to suggest? Or maybe their point was to mark him, function as a sort of a tracker device no human could (perhaps) discover? Inoculate him against other demons' recruiting attempts?
War
The Second Season Finale literally "let loose the dogs of war". It's here, it's now, the time for recon is over. The board's been set, the preliminary moves have been made, the trumpets have sounded.
So then what?
We still don't know who the participants are.
We know for a fact that demons have a part in the war, but no one can wage war alone.
The easiest idea is that it's demons vs. humans. Or, perhaps, angels.
But we don't know yet.
It may be that the War was supposed to happen between the YED's forces and another demon's horde. And the earth's merely the playground, no man's land, the prize. Humans of all paths of life merely pawns and civilians.
Further Questions
There have been generations before: when did the YED began visiting the children? Around the time of Samuel Colt? Even before?
Is there any sort of rhythm to this? Maybe the 22-year cycle, the powers activating around the time of the kids' 22-birthday?
What's Mary's role in all this?
After a fashion, no member of the 1983-generation survived: will this affect the Winner and their duties/abilities?
Are there other demons beside the BED, the YED and the RED? And the Daeva and Acheri?
What does 'family' mean for the demons? What hierarchy do they follow, if there even is one?
And how do psychics like Missouri Moseley fit in with all this? She remains the single psychic not yet connected with the YED.
Samuel Colt created a gun that's also the key to a Hell's Gate, 13 bullets that could kill anything, erected churches and built a huge pentagram in Wyoming... What inspired him to do all that?
Ash is ashes and Ellen and Bobby live to die another day.
But how long will things remain so? Ashes aren't the end, just ask the Phoenix.
And Holy Water does not work on the YED-caliber of demons.
*gnaws lips in anticipation*
Can it be time for the S3 Premiere now, pleeze?
