And now for something completely different.

School started Monday. After roughly 8 days of constant family socializing I'm pooped. I don't think I need to go to Fisherman's Wharf EVER AGAIN. I'll get you onto the right bus if you really want to go there but I'll be at Ghirardelli Square - that's where I draw the line.

Second request - if you want to be a tourist and you're going to a hilly city that thrives on public transit, walking and biking or you want to go out into nature - be prepared to walk. Or shut up. Either will do.

Jason - you were a great guest :)

I did get Teri a little drunk on tasty Napa wines - hopefully she'll never drink another wine cooler again.

I signed up for a Spanish phonology class - that's studying the sounds in the Spanish language. It's actually a little bit more broad than that since we're covering phonetics, morphology, and some historical linguistics as well. The super-fun part is that the catalog and online course description neglected to mention that the class is taught in Spanish. I sat in last night to see how I'd do and while I get the gist of what the prof is talking about there are definitely some vocabulary and idiomatic issues. The prof is being very helpful though - he'll repeat a point in English if I need to (which I probably won't ask for since everyone else in the class seems to be a native speaker or fairly proficient), I can meet him in office hours to ask about anything I didn't understand, and I can tape record the class. He offered to let me take the class as pass/fail but I don't think it will count towards my MA if I do that. While I love taking classes just to take classes I'd rather get my money's worth out of this. Luckily the linguistic concepts are something that I have a good grasp of - now I just need to learn how to say all those linguistic terms in Spanish - Madre de Dios!

I'm looking at taking some motorcycle classes in the next month or two. I really need a mode of transportation that is my own, cheap, and faster than my legs or a bicycle. One of the frisbee girls may take a class with me. I found a really well-reviewed place in San Jose so now I just need to work it around class, work, and petsitting. Also in the process of looking for a bicycle and think I'm going to settle on a folding bike. It relieves some of the issues of making sure its secure at a bike stand or being able to catch a full bus if their bike rack is full.

Going to buy my cruise tickets as soon as I get my loan refund. EXCITED!!! I also have to figure out when I'm going to Seattle and if I'm going to go to Arizona. I think we're doing Thanksgiving in Colorado since our Thanksgiving "family" has moved from LA to CO. And we're flying to NY and MI for Xmas. It's going to be a good year for frequent flyer miles.
