NaNo and a holiday wish

Dec 03, 2008 12:13

Well, I didn't manage to make it on NaNo... I was several thousand words short, but it's up to 48k now and I'm slowly but steadily plowing on. For a given value of steady, of course. lol

The main reason I'm posting is to make a special request, though... Lots of folks are putting up wish lists for the holidays, and I decided to put up a wish of my own. It costs a few minutes of your time, and can save dozens of dogs' lives. The Animal Rescue Site is having a Shelter Challenge, and the shelter that has the most votes each week gets $1000, plus at the end of the time (Dec 14) the shelter with the most votes will recieve $100,000. That will save a LOT of dogs!

I'm selfish, though. I want the rescue run by folks I've known for years to win. So, that brings me to the request! Every day when you get online, please take a couple minutes to click the Animal Rescue Site button here or on my profile (or load it as one of your 'home' tabs!) and help fund food for rescues all over the US, then click the Shelter Challenge Vote button and vote. It doesn't take long and you can do so very much good for some very deserving folks who put their all into rescuing dogs in need and finding them the perfect home. After you vote once you don't have to type in the name of the rescue again or anything, it'll keep a record for you of who you voted for!

On the vote page, pretty please vote for:
The Poodle Patch & Friends
Texarkana, TX 75503

It's not a poodle-only rescue, and they save a lot of dogs every year who would never have a chance without them. My Giz is nearly fifteen now, and when he passes the Murphy pup is going to be lonely as can be. Murphy's a service dog, yes, but she's still a dog and she's VERY attached to Giz. He can't even go outside to walk unless she gets to sit by me at the door and watch to be sure he'll come back, so I know losing him will be as hard on her as it will be on me. Another dog to play with might make things easier for her when the time comes, and I always have room for one more (small) dog. Mom won't agree at first, but hey... Murphy will help me take care of it, and help with walking it (she has to go out and untangle Giz from the steps all the time now, smart girl that she is, because he's getting old and stubborn and won't untangle the leash himself anymore when it gets caught around a step) and Mom's a sucker for a pup in need just like me. ;-D

Anyway, yes! Please vote! I'll thank you and the pups will thank you!
