the great work is FINISHED

After lots of discussion with folks here, folks on twitter, and folks in actual real life, I did it! I wrote something that I hope will help people who come to read Harry Potter and the Cursed Child who don't make a habit of reading plays. I really hated the thought that fans were making fun of other fans who weren't used to the weird work of play reading without actually HELPING, so I figured I owed it to them to at least give it a shot. I don't know if it will be helpful for everyone, but I hope it's helpful to SOMEONE.

It's up on tumblr, in three parts, starting here, with each part linking to the others. It's a lot of words, but I tried to include a tl;dr version for each part.

The REALLY short version is just explaining the caveats that surround this (it's not a final script being chief among them), going through the mechanics of what's on the page, and trying to excite people about what makes plays so great- you get to make CHOICES and have ownership over works for the theatre in ways that a novel is NEVER going to give you. I have SO much to say about the actual plays themselves, but I think this is enough words from me for tonight. ;)

theatre, harry potter
