So the Eleventh Doctor has exited Doctor Who, and as you can imagine, many people have many things to say about it.

I don't actually think most of Moffat's misogyny rubs off on the show, in the way that RTD calling fans mongaloids didn't. In fact I think they both have equal contempt for fans. I just think Moffat's a really bad writer, or at least he's writing really bad things at the moment. I did have problems with RTD but Moffat has really made me reassess things, and see how good RTD was at things like constructing a story and creating emotion, something Moffat hasn't done for me since the first Eleven series (mostly because the writing is so weird I can't get invested in anything). As for why I keep watching...maybe because I can't believe that things are actually so bad that I keep thinking the next one will be better? It's hard to believe that someone is really allowed to control the two biggest earners for the BBC and just be plain bad at their job, so maybe I think I'm being too harsh and it will get better. The 50th was not *great* but it was a massive improvement on the last series, and the Night of the Doctor was such an amazing surprise that built up a lot of good will with me. Plus, I want it to, because I love Who. Just because people haven't stopped watching doesn't mean they actually just enjoy bitching about it. I'd much rather enjoy the show. (Not that I bother writing any reactions to the episodes now, they make so little sense that there's really not anything I want to spend time criticising in any depth.)

The regeneration itself was good, and a lot better than Ten's, and the explicit swipes (here and in the 50th)at how self indulgent RTD was with Tennant were welcome. But the rest was nonsensical, to me anyway and it's hard to get into the last five minutes when you've spent the previous 45 going 'wait, what?'

I don't know if I will keep watching, as this last episode was just so appauling...I am curious about Capaldi so I probably will watch the first episode, but if it doesn't improve I will just have to make the decision to quit.

I'm afraid I don't know what Clara acts as a symbol of. I mean, she did do...something to help the previous doctors but I've no idea what or indeed why and why they even care about each other in the first place. I suppose it's ok if they just...do, but it's hard to care when there's no background or substance given to it. Sadly I also think Jenna is just a poor actress. The reason I liked Amy so much in her first season was that the whole arc was about childhood and adulthood and their relative symbolism. So I don't *think* that's my problem with Clara.

But it seems very odd that I never hear the Moffat-haters acknowledging that many of the things they dislike in Moffat's DW were also present in Rusty's era

I think I have done this somewhat on Tumblr, but again, it's hard for me to get invested enough at the moment. The British press are pretty unanimously in favour of the show though, and it continues to get massive ratings and make massive amounts of money so it's not just you. It's really probably just Whovians on the internet. Sorry if this comes off as a bit grumpy, I'm just still annoyed about the episode and what's happened in general to the show.
