NIE WIRD ES ZU HOCH BESUNGEN, RETTERIN DES GATTEN ZEIN

So this is what I've been spending most of my evenings lately preparing for:

Ok, yes, it's for a semi-staged version so we don't actually get to be QUITE that badass, but I assure you, Eschenbach's tempi are pretty comparable to Lenny's at the presto molto.

The funny bit about being the chorus in a full opera is that the point of opera is generally NOT the crowd scenes, it's the heroes and heroines. Accordingly, this 13:51 clip represents the ENTIRE MUSIC I SING in Fidelio, and yet, for this I've been spending hours at the Kennedy Center this week. Please understand- I love doing this and I love hanging around in the underbelly of the concert hall because I am a Dork Like That, but it's also hilarious to wait for hours and then jump in, rush the stage, and be finished in under 15 minutes. WHEE!! The last time I did this, it was for La Boheme, and they actually kept us on stage for the entire opera, which is fun to watch, but is a LOT of sitting still and waiting. (also, they kept forgetting to turn the lights on for us, which was a good sign of how important we were to THAT opera as well!) The men have a lot more to do this time round- the Prisoners' Chorus is justifiably quite well known, and I'm sad that I'm stuck backstage and don't get to hear it from the hall.

In other news, I am throwing caution to the WIND and heading to London for a week in July. I am anticipating being there from the 11th-18th, so friends abroad- BE YE WARNED. :D :D :D I have plans to stalk Jamie Parker CEASELESSLY visit the Globe a fair amount (Henry V and Richard III HOO BOY!!!!), but otherwise, I want to see friends and BASK in the general Londonness of it all. ;)
