I am camped out in the office once more, working on the Thesis of Doom. I'm SO CLOSE, y'all- I finally have all the resources in hand that I wanted to use and just have to do a complete readthrough. Readthroughs are always horrid but valuable- I'm tweaking lots of things for clarity and I just want to TAKE A VIDEO AND SHOW MY STUDENTS THAT PROOFREADING CAN BE THEIR FRIEND, TOO!
Ok, confession- TECHNICALLY, there are some resources I had that I never used. BUT. I am ok without using them, so I am not all that worried. Plus, Prof Big Cheese has forgotten he ever gave them to me, so ALL IS WELL!
The hardest thing is just chugging through- this puppy is 113 pages of thesis, with lots of other material to boot. I have NEVER WRITTEN SO MUCH ON ONE TOPIC IN MY LIIIIIIIIIIIFE. That does not mean it is GOOD, of course, BUT IT IS THERE.
The OTHER hardest thing is that it is apparently Grad Student Appreciation Week. Prof Jazz Hands gave all her TAs lovely potted flowers on Monday- mine is slowly wilting in the heat of my apartment (high of 88 degrees and they still haven't turned on the AC! RAPTURE UNEXAMPLED!). Professor America (who is on my committee) baked a trayful of her ABSURDLY CHOCOLATEY brownies the same day and brought it in here. Because her recipe is ABSURDLY CHOCOLATEY, half the tray remains. Today, she brought in bags of M&Ms and Reese's.
WTF, PEOPLE. I AM NOT MADE OF STONE. If my office is full of chocolate goodness, I WILL BE EATING IT. I contented myself for awhile in finishing off Matthew's grapes (left on my desk this afternoon, so I have FULL RIGHTS to them), but my breaking point came about an hour ago. OOPS.
Also of note tonight- I went to a run-through of Gilgamesh tonight and it is going to be dl;kfsdlfjskdfjsdkl;aj AMAZING. Those kids have worked their BUTTS OFF in the last six months, doing a crash course in Suzuki training and it shows. I also got to hear the chanting that runs throughout the show tonight and it is likewise kick-ass, entirely strange and otherwordly and perfect for the play. I think my Intro students are going to cry, but I am going to urge EVERYONE who can make it to come and see. It's pretty damn special and I'm glad to be involved, even if only peripherally (when the director has spent the last several years researching and writing the show herself, dramaturgs just aren't that necessary to the process).
OK. RIGHT. BACK TO THESIS.
(I STILL JUST WANT TO WATCH MORE DOCTOR WHO. MATT SMITH, I THINK I HAVE A NOT ENTIRELY PLATONIC CRUSH ON YOUR DOCTOR. I HOPE THAT IS OKAY.)
