RIGHT. SO.
Silly old summer. For all that I spend about the same time online as during the school year, the itch of procrastinatory LJ posting is just not as strong. Thus does my poor old LJ languish, save for semiregular TxtLJ posts and other such insubstantial methods of updates.
IN ANY CASE.
Things Wot Have Happened in the Last Few Days:
- Sang La Boheme at Wolf Trap! I think the performance went reasonably well, even if they left the lights off on the chorus more than once when we needed to be singing, thus proving how unnecessary we really were to the whole process. AH WELL. As usual, my love for the Boheme OT4 is strong, and Musetta can still kick Mimi's ass five times to Tuesday, so as is well in the world. ;)
- When my CAS friend Jaime wanted to crash the opera afterparty and I had to demur due to lack of directions, I realized it was time to get a GPS for my car. With any luck, it will arrive in the next few days. I've been idly wanting one for awhile, but Friday night made me realize that the technology is now too commonplace not to start taking advantage of it myself. Too often, I really don't know where I am beyond the paper I wrote directions on, so that if anything happens to make me deviate from those directions, I'm entirely screwed. NO MORE. I used a gift certificate from my parents to fund 2/3 of a model I found on sale at Amazon, so FINGERS CROSSED.
- This has PARTICULAR RELEVANCE because I am planning a trip to Louisville over the weekend to see ember_ashes, which is TRES EXCITING. I've never been to Lville, and this is my chance to jump in and spend time with Jen in the place she's lived for four years now, as well as meet her cats and get to know her fiance a bit better. \o/
- On Saturday, I snuck down to Staunton, VA and saw Titus at the Blackfriars. This was a necessity, as I have NOTHING ELSE to show for my summer, thesis-wise. It's not as useful as making contact with people who could help me with the actual thesis, but it's SOMETHING. I emailed again the girl who may have already written my thesis this spring, but haven't heard back. I say, if she's not forthcoming, then I have the all clear to just write what I want regardless. That's responsible scholarship, right? RIGHT?
- Sunday I had lunch with Sister, Hayden, and a visiting cousin, which was very nice. I followed it up with lunch with my friend Becky, who is soon to move to Atlanta. BOOO, BECKY, I say. Lunch was nice, even if we were BAKING in the sun that was streaming in the windows of the BBQ place we were eating in.
- A BBQ PLACE THAT WAS, LIKE, THREE BLOCKS AWAY FROM A CERTAIN JAY'S SALOON AND GRILLE, I MIGHT ADD. *ahem*
- Today was largely spent trying to sort out more of the mountain of absurdities that surrounds finances and such for the coming year. Rapture. Bah.
- LUCKILY FOR ALL CONCERNED, the last 36 hours have ALSO BEEN CONSUMED by poking along chash in her BRILLIANT PLAN for a P.G. Wodehouse J2 AU. SHEER. GENIUS. I contributed HIGHLY AWESOME ART to the process, as well as the name 'Mishmash Collins.' I can, of course, take NO FURTHER CREDIT, as the entirety of its genius falls solely upon C's shoulders, as is only to be expected. AMAZINGNESS. :D :D :D
- Somewhat less awesome is the reading I've been doing as I try to catch up to the expected reading list for theatre grad students. TA Jess sent me home from a party at her apartment with a GIANT PILE O' PLAYS that I have been working through very, very slowly. I've read The Piano Lesson, Fool for Love, The Birthday Party, a collection of Martin McDonagh plays, and I've got one act left of The Wild Duck. I have no excuse for how long it's taking me, save that I've mostly lost the ability to just sit and READ, which is as tragic as you might think. Sigh.
Annnnnnnnnnnnnnd there you have it! Tomorrow I plan to Be Responsible and take care of some errands out at campus, as well as read more and maybe even tidy my room. RADICAL, YES, but I like to live life on the edge. I'm like Chad Michael Murray at heart, really.
