Just got in from seeing Spring Awakening at the Kennedy Center. I had an onstage seat- I was put in what amounts to the down right corner, and made friends with the adorable two guys who were sitting next to me. Jake is playing Melchior? Aw, cool. My friend Kyle was the old Melchior and I'm so glad because I never would've seen the show if it weren't for him! It was fantastic.

I have a friend who saw the show in Philly and became obsessed, so I heard ALL ABOUT Kyle. ;)

Interesting. I saw the musical on Broadway and we've sort of had opposite reactions. I loved the original play (which translation did you read? I have Ted Hughes). I felt the musical, as an adaptation, took a lot of wrong turns. (Um, when did this become a love story???) I found the acting and direction on Broadway to be lacking. But I love the score (with the exception of the dark I know so well, which I skip every time I play the cast album). I think the music is really, very good.

WHOA. This really is our show of polar opposites- I WAS THINKING of 'The Dark I Know Well' when I wrote about staging that worked well for me. It gives me chills every time and I think it's so powerful in performance.

I have the Edward Bond translation of the play.
