because your taste in music sucks...

RIGHT. SO.

As previously reported, chash tagged me in the music meme last week for the letter "I," and I have duly uploaded a truckload of songs. :D

Showing here!

I'll Build a Stairway to Paradise, Rufus Wainwright
'It's madness to be always sitting around in sadness/
When you could be learning the steps of gladness'
Rufus does not belong to our age. This song is one of my proofs. It is also just absurdly fun.

I'm Fucking Matt Damon, Sarah Silverman
'On the bed, on the floor, on a towel by the door'
OMG I WILL NEVER STOP LOVING THIS SONG. Sheer, SHEER genius. If you ask nicely, I can upload the mp3 of 'I'm Fucking Ben Affleck'. ;)

I'm Just a Bill, Schoolhouse Rock
'But how I hope and I pray that I will,/
But today I am still just a bill.'
Like many lucky children, I was raised with Schoolhouse Rock. This is one of my favorites.

I'm Not Your Stepping Stone, the Monkees
'When I first met you girl you didn't have no shoes/
Now you're walking 'round like you're front page news.'
This is one of the very best, all time top-5 songs for belting out in the car. Also- it is REQUIRED to also do the handclaps. Be warned.

I'm Sticking with You, the Decemberists
'But with you by my side I can do anything/
When we swing we hang past right and wrong'
This cover is ridiculous fun. It goes along all well and good, but then turns into a jam session of joy. Awesome.

I've Been Everywhere, Johnny Cash
'Crossed the deserts bare, man/
I've breathed the mountain air, man
One day, it is my goal to be able to sing along with this song with REAL WORDS, rather than mostly nonsense syllables. Aim high, kids!

I'm Yours, Jason Mraz
'There's no need to complicate, our time is short/
This is our fate, I'm yours'
This song is ridiculously adorable. ALSO- REMIND ME TO TELL YOU MY ANECDOTE OF WHEN JASON MRAZ WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL.

I Get a Kick Out of You, Jamie Cullum
'My story is much to sad to be told/
But practically everything leaves me totally cold'
I love this version- it's fast and a little frantic and has a bit of bad-ass-ity that I don't find in most. Plus, fake cocaine snorting FTW!

I Just Wanna Dance, Jerry Springer the Opera
'I don’t give a fuck no more/
If people think I am a whore/
Cos I just wanna dance'
The most ABSURDLY SHOW STOPPING NUMBER SUNG BY A WANNA-BE STRIPPER IN THE HISTORY OF MUSICAL THEATRE.

I Think I Love You, the Partridge Family
Do you think I have a case?
Let me ask you to your face'
HEYYYYYYYYYY I THINK I LOVE YOU! This is also up there in the all time, top 5 songs to sing in the car. You also have to imitate the harpsichord in this one...

I Wanna Be Sedated, the Ramones
'Just put me in a wheelchair get me on a plane/
Hurry hurry hurry before I go insane'
My Sister often refers to hearing this as a ringtone once and admiring the possessor of said ringtone ever afterwards. Take that for what you will.

I Was Meant for the Stage, the Decemberists
'I was meant to raise these hands/
With quiet all about me.'
The anthem of every egotistical actor. I love it and it maybe makes me teary when I see it performed live. SHUT UP IT IS AMAZING.

Is She Weird, the Pixies
'Is she weird, is she white/
Is she promised to the night'
Once upon a time, I had this track on repeat for thirty minutes and never noticed. I just kept grooving. True story.

The Island, the Decemberists
'Though we know for sure/
Amidst this fading light/
We'll not go home again'
Yet another song that suddenly worked for me when I saw it live- the richness of the studio recording is now it's own gift, but I'll always hear it with rhythmic foot stamping and clapping.

It's Over, Sara Greenberg and Hana Ikegami
'I was drowning slowly, now I'm catching my breath/
I can't let you do that to me'
This is a song that came out of my college a capella group, after a fashion- two girls met in the group and decided to co-write a few songs. Sara wrote the lyrics, Hana did the music, and they recorded this on their own dime in our studio. Sara's one of my favorite people, and as you can hear, she's also absurdly talented.

It Ain't Necessarily So, Jamie Cullum
'I take the gospel whenever I'm able/
But with a grain of salt'
This is an amazing song on its own merits, but when Jamie sings it, it's slow and funky and sexy and fun. I saw him play this the first time I saw him live and it was ridiculously awesome.

THAT TOOK AN HOUR. JEEZ LOUIS. Alright- let me know if any of the links are wonky or if a song changes your life. ;)

sharing is caring, music, memery
