Speaking of Kate, I discovered that the Watermill got a youtube channel and found a long promo vid for their phenomenal, life-changing Taming of the Shrew that I saw back in the spring of 2007.

THEY ARE MY VERY FAVORITE COMPANY IN ALL THE LAND. The brilliant way in which they used the Christopher Sly induction, the slinky, sly use of actor-driven music, the marvelous theatricality of the wardrobes, and above all, the shattering performance of Simon Scardifield as Kate, which left me trembling long after the curtain call.
Brilliant.
Fun thoughts of Propeller aside, we got our second round of play reviews handed in today. OH RAPTURE. We only have two weeks to grade, this time, and of course, it's the two weeks when two of my final projects are due. Frabjous day. :( I had a FLURRY of emails today from students who had frantic, last minute issues with their papers and were desperate for help/advice/heaven only knows what motivates the mind of the frenzied undergrad these days.
On the plus side, I have minestrone simmering on the stove, a cupcake in my backpack, a FABULOUS card arrived in the mail from
causeways today, and we had a vigorous discussion in Intro today on feminism (as a lead-in to feminist theatre) that maybe, MAYBE will show the doubters that theatre can be provoking and about massively relevant issues. One can always hope!
