I went to my very first meeting as an Official Grad Student today. It was a wee bit hilarious, in that I was INSANELY stressed about it when it turned out to be such a nonevent, mostly marked by my needing to leave the room at one point to deal with my INEXPLICABLY LINGERING HACKING COUGH.* Ugh. I've had weird coldy symptoms for the last couple of weeks, ever since the dust from the move started doing a fandango in my throat. The cough has come and gone, but it's been back for a day or so and it is a PAIN. Yuck. I'm back on a Dayquil/Nyquil rotation, which always makes me feel like a wino or something, as I swig straight from the bottle, proper doses be damned!
ANYWAY.
The meeting today was to teach us about a video database that the University subscribes to that has a good amount of theatre, opera, and ballet productions all archived for our viewing pleasure. It's a nifty tool, particularly because we can instantly create clips and playlists from their library- I sense a series titled 'Why Prince Hal is Cooler Than Your Thesis Topic Was' in my near future... ;) Tomorrow is the bigun, when I'll meet with the professor and the other TAs for the intro course I've been assigned. We're scheduled to go from 10AM until 4PM, so I'll be doing lots of flailing in the next 24 hours or so. *SIGH* My biggest goal, however, is just to GET THERE. Compared to Haverford, UMD is SPRAWLING and HUGE and I felt like a dumbass wandering around without a clue today. Argh. I just HATE not knowing exactly what's going on and what I need to do and sadly, that's just going to be the case for awhile and I need to buck up and go with it.
The upside is, I survived today! I even shook a few hands of the other TAs for the course that were at the meeting. Hopefully, I didn't give them my plague, as that would hardly be the kind of first impression I like to strive for... Tonight, I have Thai Chicken Pizza and cider and Friday Night Lights. I do NOT have a Celeste, as she is off gallivating in Boston and then West Virginia for the next few days. I can at least comfort myself by traipsing about half-clothed and pretending the apartment is all mine for the next few days, which is always fun. ;)
Ok. Time for pizza and cough syrup. GOOD TIMES.
* Which I just typed as 'COUCH'. Why yes, I HAVE been plagued by a lingering couch! It just won't leave, try as I might to shoo it back out the door! Any tips? ;)
