I am a huge fan of the book, it is brilliant written and very moving. And also near impossible to adapt into a movie, due to its sporadic storytelling. I still wanted to see how it would go though. I didn't get around to seeing it when it was in theaters, and again missed it when it came out on dvd/bluray. My mom had it on netflix though, so I saw it tonight.
I must say, I was very impressed with what they managed to do. Ultimately anything would be but a shadow of the brilliance of the book...but this movie ended up being the biggest, baddest shadow it could be. The story was nicely adapted, the actors did a great job (I am now officially in love with Rachel MacAdams), the music was subtle but moving, and the cinematography was cool.
