One must wonder what it is that brings so many to a place such as this. The promise of "second chances"? But of what use are they, when they go unused? Or are you content to live here, simply attending school and mingling with anything given entry to this fair city?

Stop this--if you continue with this nonsense I will arrest you for purposeful slander. Nothing good can come of this.

Where do you see slander in my words? You are a friend of Ramza's, are you not? Surely you do not wish to see him on a path to certain ruin.

You are purposefully being spiteful with your words. And you're not just making fun of one person, but every person in this city. That's slander on two accounts.

Sarcasm isn't that hard to read.

Enough of this. You're preaching to the wrong choir. Your words are harmful rather than helpful--that is not how one changes another for better.

What harm is there in asking but a few questions? I've the right to seek answers.

But, as you speak of arresting me, will you overlook threats that have been made against me, and more than once?

Try being more civil next time then.

You can file a report while you're down at the station. We can't really do anything until something happens anyway. [he actually regrets this; just not in Algus's case.]

And you mean to uphold justice? You seem so eager to threaten my arrest, over simple words, yet words of a far less civil nature thrown about by others go ignored!

I can arrest you over your words because of their nature, and being in public sight. However, I cannot arrest someone over something I cannot see or have not seen. As I said, you can file a report down at the station. As well, if you truly feel the need, you can file for a restraining order against certain people based on these accusations.

Still, the police cannot do anything against these people until the law is actually broken. For that I apologize. [out of formality; seriously? he doesn't like you Algus.]

I don't blame him. D: He's still being fair. sadalfas August 18 2009, 06:14:08 UTC
Are theirs not in public sight? You need not look far to find them easily enough.

Where is this station, then? [Although Algus won't actually file a report.]

I have not looked. It's not my business to read every exacting conversation on this medium.

It's just off campus, within the first building to the left (coming from the campus), the first lot in the strip mall.

I would think you ought make it your business, as part of your work. A preemptive measure.

I just told you we don't do that sort of thing. Not only are we not allowed to take preemptive action--that would be unlawful--we simply do not have time for such things. There is, quite frankly, too many things to be done and too few of a working police force.

Who makes these laws? Is it not better to prevent any incidents, rather than deal with their aftermath?

But I suppose you've many criminal cases to keep you occupied, despite how quiet this city seems.

The people. [pause] If you want to know more about the government I suggest you take a government and/or history class. If you want to know more about the law and its workers take a criminal justice and/or law class. Baring that, go read a book.

That is the case in every city, no matter how seemingly quiet or small. It's just the way the world works.

The people? And which people be they?

It would take mere moments of your time to offer a few more pieces of scant information. But you are right. I ought turn to reliable sources.

Has this city truly seen so many?

The. People. What about that statement do you not understand? Like I said, if you want to learn more go learn the conventional way. I profess I am not much of a teacher.

Well. What do you want to know exactly? It isn't as if you're asking proper questions to the specific subject you seem so interested in.

What city hasn't? I don't think you quite grasp all that we do. We handle everything from simple traffic violations to full scale assault; claims of theft to murder cases; act as intermediaries to apprehending rapists. Every call that comes in every day must be sorted out into priority cases much like triage--and some things count more than others, sadly. As I said--there can never be enough police officers in all the world.

Anyone in this place, I presume.

Were I to ask them, should I expect answers? But worry not, I mean to do as I said. Books are often the better teachers, after all.

I did not question the importance or the extent of your work, did I? How fortunate we are that we've at least a small number of such diligent police officers, then.
