In 1994, to herald the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War, a concert was held in Helsinki, Finland.
This involved:
Eleven Finnish guys...
In really long pointy clown-elf shoes...
With hairstyles that were a cross between a UNICORN and a MULLET...
Playing guitars shaped like TRACTORS...
Doing covers of songs like Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama" and Tom Jones' "Delilah" (yes in the same show)...
...
BACKED UP BY THE ALEXANDROV RED ARMY CHOIR IN FULL FORCE.
The above included a full orchestra and Russian folk dancers.
...
And I just saw this performance on DVD. This had to be the STRANGEST, MOST BIZARRE, MOST WONDERFUL MUSIC EVENT EVER. EVER EVER EVER.
The Leningrad Cowboys and the Alexandrov Red Army Orchestra and Ensemble's TOTAL BALALAIKA SHOW.
(Yes...that is the title.)
Check it out...you can rent it on Netflix. One cannot possibly feel sad or depressed or negative about ANYTHING after watching this. One can only feel...in awe. -still gawking-
