a brief anecdote
SETTING: Outside Long Life Vegi Noodle, Berkeley, CA. Last Tuesday, about 8:30 PM.
Our hero (ME) sits on the sidewalk, awaiting the arrival of two tarrying friends. he eats peanut noodles out of a take-out container and reads the paper. ASIAN DUDE approaches, a small Domino's box in his hand.
ASIAN DUDE: Hey, you hungry?
ME: What? NO! No, I'm just waiting for my friends.
ASIAN DUDE: Alright dude, I believe you.
ASIAN DUDE leaves.
