Dance into the fire that fatal kiss is all we need

There were more than a few traditions that Heira enjoyed among her people. The rites of passing, the harvest of the red moons were always things that she preferred to participate in. It gave her the feeling of some sort of purpose, that all the things they endured with the cullings and all the ( Read more... )

It was always so simple of a request of her people for her to just be there with them. Regardless of her own hesitation, her own doubts of her ability to lead she knew that Teyla had given her such guidance over the years that it was almost far too easy to follow in her steady footsteps. Now with Mike at her side too she felt a strength to her motions that she had not been aware of for quite some time, and now the more she felt it within her the more she knew that she could one day lead her people just as Teyla had hoped she would.

The flames licked the black of the sky above them and she parted from Mike and moved toward the fire, feeling the warmth that she'd left at his side suddenly returned by the heat of the blaze. Her steps were certain, guided simply by the motions she had learned as a child. Hands raised above her head, thanking those that had given them such peace, such nobility despite the great odds against them.

As she followed in turn she could feel him watching her, and her eyes caught glimpses of him through the flames as they rose and fell between her and him. She truly loved him and even now, in a time when all had felt lost for a moment... for her people she felt a connection to him that she knew was strained.

She could see that pain in his eyes, the darkness that surrounded him and she wished she could pull him right into the fires to flood his life with such light, because she knew he was worthy of it. So in return for his gaze, lingering upon her as she danced within the circle of her people, she smiled at him, letting the light she knew she had within herself be shared with him so effortlessly.

She was a beacon that held him fast...he couldn't look away if he tried. Watching her move and sway in the firelight was hypnotic, a dance of flesh and flame that lured him in easily. It wasn't hard to forget, just watching and warming himself...feeling the rhythm she danced to, the beat of drums and the haunting wail of the ornate flute the Athosians used during some ceremonies.

The heat of the flames eased the tension in his muscles, the music synced to the rhythm of his body...the drums matched his heart, the flute rose and fell in pitch with the tide of his breath, and Heira...she moved with all of it, tied to the music and the fire.

Tied to him in ways he would never understand, wasn't sure he wanted to understand. Jim was a scientist at heart, he always had to *know*...Michael spent too much of his life feeling, and he knew it was better to trust it over his head where it was really important. He felt her as she danced...felt her spirit open, saw her eyes and smile bare themselves to him and no one else in that gathering...bringing him here, surrendering to the heat and cold and music...she was giving herself to him in a way that was more intimate than any he'd ever known.

She *was* the fire...and watching her dance burned away the pain.
