The Obligatory Ogata Megumi Fangirl Post

Dec 18, 2009 14:51

If there's something I don't do often, it's fangirl. I've always found that fangirling should be one of those things done in private or with a small group of friends because it's embarassing to do publicly, for the person beng fangirled over, the fangirl themself and the fandom in general.

So, I will do my best to not squeal in this post about Ogata Megumi.

Of course, it was obvious. I've been watching on a huge binge of both Yu Yu Hakusho and Sailor Moon so go figure that I would end up on "OMG, Ogata Megumi is the BEST EVAR!!!" rant. Both Kurama and Haruka/Sailor Uranus are my favorite characters in their respective series and really...give me an anime in which Ogata Megumi provides the voice of one of the characters and I almost guarantee you that they're my favorite character. (Sole exception is Magic Knight Rayearth; I'm a Clef fan)

The inevitable binge was about to begin, I say and I listen to my collection of albums that I had to dig out of a random box and dust off. But it really made me think just how much of a big fan of hers I actually am, which is weird for me to say as I am really careful about the fannish thing I do.

Well, first off, I'm the person that has been trying to get an invite sent out to her once SWACE gets to be a bit of a bigger con. (Not Otakumex, I wish that on no one). Hell, if she was ANYWHERE in the US, I would probably find some way to go. But it's not just that, it ends up as inspiration for some of the things I have going on in my stories.

Take for example, the character of Sugimura Toshi from Midnight. A character that not only was based as a bit off of Kurama from Yu Yu Hakusho (at least, Shuuichi and not Youko Kurama), I ended up not being albe to think of him without thinking of Ogata Megumi. It's one of those secret things I like to do when I'm alone and writing and it gets away from me for a moment that if I was rich and famous and able to do this for a living, I would so get Ogata Megumi to play Toshi's voice. (And sad thing is, I've gone through every character I've created and done the same thing. Sad isn't it?) But hey, it at least gets me to do it, which is becoming a rarer and rarer occurence.

I guess the point of the story is I'm an Ogata Megumi fan in the way that she does great work and I'd be thrilled to meet her but I'm not going to follow her to Japan and find out where she lives.

And wow, this is what I get when I listen to too much Zero Punctuation lol. Time to get to work~!
