Why I hate sci-fi

Because, almost without exception, it is written for people who believe that the world is a small place. I'm sorry, but I don't listen to bullshit about how the Earth is a small speck in the universe when it comes from people who don't understand how large the world is.

One reason I never got into sci-fi films was because I always think the special effects are cheesy, and the alien prosthetics/makeup is ridiculous. Like the other day someone forced me to watch Star Wars: Episode One, and I couldn't get over how fake the CGI looked, even though it's supposedly revolutionary and wonderful according to everyone else. I guess it didn't help matters that the script was absolutely horrendous.

Consequently, the only visual sci-fi I ever liked was the TV show Firefly, which had NO ALIENS and special effects that either looked better because they were on the small screen, or just plain WERE better. Either way, there was no reliance on the special effects, which is something a one Mr. George Lucas could learn a lesson from.

I guess this doesn't explain why I didn't get into sci-fi novels. But maybe I'll steal your explanation if anyone ever asks me.
