Something a bilingual education never prepares you for

This happens to me all the time: a native English speaker starts talking about some animal, say, a cockroach, and anthropomorphizes it by referring to it as a he. But the word for cockroach in Spanish is cucaracha, which is feminine. I can't help but feel a cognitive dissonance whenever that happens: "But a cockroach is a she!"
