"the fundamentalists" rocked out at pride

Jun 13, 2005 01:07

As of yesterday I went to the first queer pride picnic I’ve seen have entertainment provided by the fundamentalists.
Yes, that’s the name the band who played the stage called themselves, nice ironic little joke. They were pretty good, somewhere between rock and emo, and managed to get a progressive, anti-theocracy/anti-religious hate, anti-current adminstration agenda into songs that people could actually listen to and dance as much as possible to in the heat and rain.
In addition to their own songs (like “Stop Feeding the Hand that Bites You”) they did some covers, including Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love” (which meant I got to clue a friend in on the fact that singer Marc Almond finally came out, like we all didn’t know even in the ‘80s :=).
Washtenaw county Pride was fun, and as I said, now I can say the fundamentalists gave us a great concert :=) I should see if they have any albums out.
