So this is the 3rd fix on my car in the last month, 4th of the summer. The last 3 have all cost 200 or more. Time 1 was back in may with the Phantom Starter which would sometimes work in Neutral and sometimes work in drive before it just quite all together. Turns out starters are one of the cheaper things to fix. The next was probably my fault, but the front brakes were really starting to get bad and after the trip up to Tawas for my grandmother's funeral, I was in desperate need of new ones, even though it was a hefty 250 repair
The third mess up was just last week, on the way down from visiting my Mom in Tawas and was by far the worst. I was driving down after a splendid weekend when my engine just out and died. I pulled off to the side and let the car cool before starting again. The engine kept turning over and over but wouldn't start up. My mom doesn't have a reliable car and I was still 2 and a half hours away from Lansing. Eventually I got it towed to a local repair shop, which wasn't open that day, coerced my sister into driving 5 hours roundtrip to bring me back so I wouldn't miss class, and hitching a ride back up with my cousin to pick the car back up. The repairs alone were 300 bucks and the pain and headaches and gas it cost me made it seem like more.
Just yesterday, as I was headed home from class, I noticed a grinding noise in my right rear tire. I hoped (as I always do) that it was a quick fix and perhaps it just needed a little air. As I drove up to the Marathon on the corner of G. Riv and Hagadorn, however, my brake locked up and I squealed into the parking lot. Luckily for me, the attendant was knowledgeable enough to tell me to reverse my car, unlocking the brake, long enough for me to get home. I just turned it in this morning, to the verdict 250 for new spring, brake shoe and cylinder. My love! I mean I know I didn't pay anything for this car, but I'm so sick of repairs. I was trying to make a budget for myself, first time ever!, and how am I supposed to balance things out. It's just more unnecessary headache.
Funny things about Osteo Med Students
#1 Clicky Pens - I don't know who the genius was that invented a giant pen with 4 different colors in them, but I'll bet he either was, or related to an overzealous med student. They treat these things like gold. Each time the professor accents something in lecture, the hall resounds with the frenzy of med students switching colors. Its comical to the point that one Instructor lost it during her lecture. Part of me thinks she was just switching colors to listen to all the other monkeys mimic her. In case you were wondering, I lost my 4 color wonder around week 3 of the summer and fully enjoy pencils.
In more serious news, I'm finding it really hard to make friends. Sometimes I not only feel like I'm not reaching out to other people, but I'm isolating myself. I just don't really know how to change things. It seems almost exhausting to get to know people now, and part of me feels like high school all over again. Like people have already formed their little cliches and it's already too late. Hopefully things will turn to the better soon.
EDIT: I just found out I got 35/36 on my first exam. I got the biggest smile I've had all day.
