Well it has been awhile hasn't it?
I'll hopefylly be back with somehting more substantive soonish, but I really felt the need to share this excellent article. Rebecca Solnit takes on media representations of disaster victims, pointing out something that really bothered me (and still does) about Hurricane Katrina coverage and demonstrating the media's sad tendency to dehumanize victims of disaster (especially if they are poor and not white). Read it, it is important.
