Because I've Wanted To Know For A LONG Time!!
TME: Another favorite of mine is “Licking Cream” from the album Home, which also features Skin (from Skunk Anasie fame). How did that collaboration come about?
Lajon: Years ago, man, I heard some voice in Summerset, Wis., and I was like, “What the **** is that?” It sounded incredible from where we were at; we might have been in a truck or RV at the time. We ran to the stage, a few of us, and Skunk Anasie was on stage, and it was the most intense show I’d ever seen. Come to find out, they were one of the biggest bands over in Europe, and we just loved their music and her voice. Me and Skin hit it off, and we were at Longview Studios doing Home and “Who would you like to work with, Lajon?”, “Well, I’d love to work with Skin, I’d love to sing with her,” just kind of throwing it out there.
The next thing I know, they’re flying in from Japan, for a couple of days, and then they got to go back out on tour. So her and her bass player flew in, and this was after just talking with them a few times. And she was cool, an artist, she loved us, we loved them, and there you go, she was at the cabin, at the song, with us. Writing "Licking Cream" in the bedroom at my cottage, you know writing lyrics down, bam, right off the bat. Then we were like, okay, let’s go jam it!
It was cool, and then they took us to Europe, and it was like being there with The Beatles. I mean kids in line for days, it was great, every night was sold out at very humongous places. Then we got to do the video for "Licking Cream," which was exciting and fun, we were doing that in Germany. It was a good time, and I miss Skin.
