Bringing My Own
This is me holding a burger from the Tasty Treat & Grill in Holyoke, an old-fashioned roadside burger and ice cream stand. It was a darn good burger. I found myself there, at the establishment long known in Holyoke as Rudd's, on assignment from an on-line magazine based in Springfield called BYO Family. The publisher there is a friend of my mother-in-law's, who connected us. It had been a little while since I had been "in the game" writing, so I was a little nervous about cold-calling my assignments. So I ended up just going to the Tasty Treat with my family and ordering a burger and some ice cream for A. It took me a while to get an interview with the new owner, who had bought the place just a couple of months ago. But it all turned out well in the end. My two stories are "Still a Tasty Treat" and "Back Yard as Produce Section."
