Poems & Beer

  • Yesterday, I went back and read some of the poems that I wrote in November 2009 on my 30 Poems in 30 Days blog. I enjoyed going back and reading them and marveled at how my attempts to write a poem every day seemed to crystallize into bursts of lasting insight. So this morning, I quickly dashed off another. I'm not sure I'll go back to the one-a-day pace, but I'd like to make it a regular discipline of some sort.
  • For our little Burns Night gathering, I purchased a six-pack of Claymore Scotch Ale, a seasonal offering from the Great Divide Brewing Co. I had walked over to the Belhaven, but balked at the price. So I decided to try something new. I'm glad I did. The Claymore is a wee heavy style ale, and they don't mess around. In a pint glass, it looks black like stout. You can only tell it's "deep ruby" colored like they say if you hold it up to a light. It's yummy and malty like a good wee heavy should be, but adds a little grain flavor, like a stout. And after you have one, you can definitely feel it. I recommend.
