Since her new album is being released today, I figured a good subject for this post would be to talk about my very favorite singer/songwriter, Sara Groves.
When it's all said and done, Sara Groves really has written the soundtrack to my life. She has a knack for poetry that always awes me in its elegance. Her turns of phrase are at once simple and profound. More than that, the things she's saying are usually spot-on relevant to somewhere I am, have been, or probably will be at some point in my life, and all with a "living life as a modern day Christian" focus.
Afraid of change?
Pictures of Egypt The meaning of life?
Awakening Trusting God has it in hand?
From This One Place Taking joy in the hum-drum?
Setting up the Pins The dark side of marriage?
It's Me (I'm not even married, but this is one of the most heartbreakingly, brilliant beautiful songs I've ever heard, because it's honest, I've witnessed it, and speaks to the inherent, fragile vulnerability of love).
Praise? Worship? Triumph? Rejoicing? Comfort? Celebration? Inspiration? Encouragement? Yup, she's got it all.
He's Always and Been FaithfulWhen the SaintsThe Word There are even more I wanted to link for which I couldn't find YT links, such as "Kingdom Comes" or "Conversations"
The one that's really mine, at the end of the day, however, is
This Journey is My Own, since one of my central struggles has always been that I covet to much the approval, favor, good opinion, praise, and accolades of people. Not just the people I love, not just the people I agree with existentially, but EVERYONE. You can see how this trait would be discouraging and exhausting in the long run.
In any case, I finally bought the new album on pre-order Sunday morning, but it's been go go go ever since and I forgot to sync it to my iPod, so I probably won't get to properly listen until tomorrow.
Really looking forward to it, though. :-)
