So, The Cape

I must confess, I was a bit underwhelmed by the Pilot of "The Cape" I think the chief reason for this is that it feels too fast. I have this weird feeling like the showrunners wanted a two-hour pilot and NBC said "No way, José" In other words, the plot is there, but it's choppy and there's very little characterization. I think Vince's 'training' montage suffered the most here. Max tells him he's going to take him to the edge of his mind and body's capabilities, making us think it was going to be hard, and five minutes later "he's ready" looking like he barely broke a sweat. Summer Glau's character, Orwell, felt like she was hurried onto the stage in the last five minutes by absentminded stagehands, but I am happy to report that those five minutes did finally give me the chance to see her in a role where she didn't seem on the brink of nuts.

In any case, I still like the basic framework of the show. The characters seem like they have potential, once they're let outside the confines of their tidy archetypal cubicles. The cast is solid, the premise is comfortable 'meat and potatoes' fare, and of course Bear is doing the music. I will see what a few regular episodes do to me.

Moving on!
