Shakespeare's Beta.

The ongoing saga of overhauling a novel.

I have gotten through my first pass of what I call "Part I" of Shakespeare's Basement which is essentially all the necessary exposition. I have already accomplished a lot. I re-conceived and rearranged some character introductions, and added two whole new characters.

Instead of moving on, however, I decided I am going to go back and overhaul Part I again. Some of my changes work splendidly, others only tepidly. I have a feeling that if I can get the beginning of this book to where I'm completely happy with it from every angle, that overhauling the rest of the book (which won't be quite so easy to compartmentalize) will go a lot more smoothly.

Once I finish the second (or third) overhaul, I'll probably want to send it out to a few of you who've read the first draft and a couple of you who haven't.

In the meantime, I'll enjoy my chapter titles, as they presently stand:

Chapter One: Exit, pursued by a bear. No, really.
Chapter Two: This (not so) great stage of fools.
Chapter Three: I know a bank where the inspiration goes.
Chapter Four: For yes, there is a tale of more woe.
Chapter Five: The lottery of our destiny really sucks.

Have I ever mentioned that the chapter titles are probably my favorite part of this book? In the meantime, I have added Jamie Ray Newman and Jeremy Irons to my head!cast. LOL
