Today is my cousin Kathryn's sixteenth birthday. Sixteen years ago, a little, bright red baby with black hair and big ears came into our lives, and she has been such a joy every moment since.
In some ways, Kathryn's life is a constant bookmark to mine, because she's sort of the first person whose life I've gotten to watch from the get-go. I was twelve when she was born and I remember everything. Her Baptism, her adorable curls, the Barney years, the Barbie years, Jacqueline's birth, going to school, Daniel's birth, First Holy Communion, all the books I've bought her over the years, introducing her to Harry Potter, high school...
