Early to bed means I got no writing done

I'm going to take the plunge and do the NaNoWriMo this year, which should surely sap my sanity and cause me to ingest many fruity drinks. But I've been wanting to participate for a while, and this month is ripe for writerly opportunities. I have too many unfinished things sitting on my hard drive collecting electronic dust. I wish there was more of a support system. I don't know personally know anyone who is doing NaNo and I feel slightly stupid updating the unwatching world with word counts. Dilemmas.

I think I'll go do the early voting tomorrow, but the cynical part of me doesn't think any of it will matter. Whomever wins is in for a world of shit, and will need a very large shovel to work his way out of it. Curious--no one seems to have an actual energy plan, and more curiouser, no one seems to care. But a $150,000 wardrobe -- put that on the front page.

I've been participating less and less and less in fandom as the year drags on. It seems like it's all icons and wallpapers and nothing of substance. I don't seem to know where the conversations are happening. Again, none of my friends do fandom (they're too busy with their Facebooks and Myspaces and real lives), so it's very lonely. Maybe the world has moved on and I haven't gotten the memo.

Things that have been occupying my brainspace:

* Office politics - it's a bit like watching the Discovery Channel, but with more bloodshed and less mating. It gives us something to talk about at lunch, anyhow.
* True Blood - is it Sunday night yet? The books, which I've skimmed, are poorly written, but the TV show is pure gold. Think Twilight for grownups, but with an infinitely more interesting cast.
* The World Without Us - you'll never look at plastic the same way again after reading this. Now I feel guilty every time I toss anything remotely plasticine.
* Sleep - there never seems to be enough of it.
* Things to do in South Florida of any substance - are still few and far between, unless you like driving. I'm jealous of anyone who lives in a culturally-inclined metro area.
* My sad lack of shoes - I've been wearing the one pair of loafers (which I've had since high school) everyday. I strongly suspect co-workers doubt my sense of taste, which they wouldn't be entirely wrong about. Must correct this situation very quickly.
* My sad lack of time - Who put the world on fast-forward when I wasn't looking?
* My sad lack of fiber - I'm thinking of doing the detox thing, but I'm afraid it'll have me running to the bathroom more often than is comfortable for one as obsessive-compulsive as myself, especially about public restrooms.
* Mosquitoes - Seemed to have infiltrated the home. I grow weary of welts all over my body. See above about being obsessive-compulsive, and throw in an unhealthy does of hypochondria, and you can pretty much guess my state of mind.

That's it for now. I'll see you on the other side of the month, and, with luck and a bit of persistence, I'll be happily typing away my NaNo.

nanowrimo, me stuff
