I am an American Soldier.
Hard not to either completely fall into the hype, be perhaps gullable,... Or completely rank on it and use it all as research for my comic. Of course, being in Intel, I've joined the ranks of many people who can't talk about shit. That's okay, I can still talk about OTHER shit. The army way of life, my impending doom.
So, I'm sure Nick will read this at SOME point in time...
My BCT is in Fort Lenardwood, MO. My AIT is in Fort Huachaca, AZ. God help me. Nick has told me enough about both places to make me wish I was somewhere else. However, the good news is, either during or after, I COULD be sent to DLI in CA. I would like this. A lot. So I'll go through Hell and work my ass off for even the slightest possibility to do what I want. I say this now, before I'm shipped off to basic. When I still now have pleasant thoughts of the military. I have the confidence to know that I won't be one of the many that "washes out" of basic. I'll hate it I'm sure. But I am no longer a quitter of anything. I stayed through at Gibbs when it was only a waste of money and a down right insult to stay. But I graduated, and this is only 9 weeks, not a full year. The longest, most agonizing 9 weeks of my life, but I'm up for it. This past 6 months has been the suckiest time of my life. My medical exams and such at MEPs was the most stressful day of my life. EVER. (and this is coming from me, who magically sees everything as stress sometimes) And I've already accepted that there is nothing worse on Earth than my mother, so as long as I can remember and apply all this, I'll be okay. That, and if I keep running. I have no upper body strength, so I still can't do many pushups, and running... Running is scary. But I'm workin on it.
I played Halo at the recruiter's office yesterday. That was fricken weird. I didn't do too badly. It was me and a potential future psi-ops kid, against two future MPs. We schooled them. What's sad is, it was all the recruiters and Staff Sargeants that brought in the xboxes and, (wait, XBOXs proper noun?) anyway, they are the ones that wanted us to play. We did paperwork and stuff for like 30min. And then we played Halo for a little under an hour. Like I said, it was weird, and unexpected.
I have to STILL get a hold of Gibbs, it's very important, my promotion depends on it. My loan people are cooperating with me even though my school isn't. So at least THAT's going okay so far.
Anyway, I'm hopping offline so I can get some food and do some stuff. If Nick was a good little goober, he'd get back to me sometime and tell me what he thought of all this. We'll see.
He'll never be as cool as the Uber Goober.
Waddy Pitmus to all and to all a good flight.
