I debated about posting. The daily minutiae of my life is boring even to me. This was one of those weekends where I had big plans and little success. Or rather, I did plenty of things that were on my list and I should feel excited about it but most of them involved spending money. On the plus side, once my Lands End orders arrive, I will have everything I need to go skiing. I'm starting to look forward to that. I also bought some bathing suits for Florida. Hopefully, at least one will fit. I hate paying shipping charges.
Did some stitching this weekend. Most of what I did during Dark Knight, I had to rip out. I am getting annoyed with my inability to count but c'est la vie. I thought Dark Knight was a terrific movie. I understand what the critics are saying about Heath Ledger's performance. It isn't merely that it's good, it's that it would have launched his career in all new directions. He was fantastic. The movie in general was quite good. The story is dark and it's supposed to be. He's not the hero we want, he's the hero we need. It gives the franchise room to grow with or without Christian Bale. Though he's the best Batman yet.
Also watched Beautiful with Minnie Driver. What a waste of nearly 2 hours. I did get quality stitching time so it wasn't a total loss, but close. Minnie Driver plays Mona Hibbert who has desperately wanted to win the Miss America Miss pageant since she was 8. Armed with her best friend, Mona devotes her life to winning, resorting to dirty tricks when necessary. When she gets pregnant, which automatically disqualifies her, her best friend raises the little girl. Mona must eventually choose between what she wants and what she thought would make her happy. Which would have made more sense had Mona been even remotely likable. Even though I got weepy at the end, it didn't make up for having to sit through the previous hour and fifty minutes.
Book #2, Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon. From my Goodreads review: This was the book that Dark-Hunter fans had been waiting for and I have to say it was well worth waiting for. What Kenyon was able to do here was give us backstory. The whole deal and not just the pieces that make the story flow. 2/3rds of the book was Acheron as a human where it became unbearably clear that the Acheron that we knew was very much a facade. I was impressed at how well she worked in what we knew with what we didn't. The reading was extraordinarily good, though 16 hours of listening to Acheron be brutalized was often hard. Never boring but always painful. I thought Soteria was a good match for him because she was so stable. It isn't that she didn't come with baggage, it's just that she accepted herself. There were nitpicks here and there but overall, this was fabulous. 5 stars.
So why am I blah? I'm not sure. I haven't been sleeping well. I think it's the stress of getting back to work. It will be a challenge though one I'm looking forward. I'm excited and apprehensive about the travel. Happy because I have friends in NYC. Sad because I'm developing a pretty active life here which I'm excited about. When you travel all the time, you can't have an active social life. I think I'm also apprehensive about my financial situation. I need to chill. I worked on a budget which was highly depressing. I really don't have enough money. That, too, shall change. Another c'est la vie moment. I don't want to spend a lot of time worrying about it but I can't help thinking about it, either. We'll see what the numbers look like at the end of the month. The budget will be a work in a progress for a while.
