Moving and moving and moving

Remind me to burn it all next time. Or at least donate it all to some worthy cause.

The movers showed up on Friday in the alloted time slot. They were actually smart enough to have checked out the property the night before to ensure they could get the truck in there. 4 guys. All professional movers. Since the service had packed for me, every item had a number. They gave me a "bingo" card and called out the numbers as they came in the door. I had more than 258 marked items. They unpacked the wardrobe boxes and whatever kitchen boxes could be unloaded on the counter. I think I still have 100 boxes to unload.

Because of how the move happened, I didn't get a chance to go through all my property and decide yay or nay. So I'm doing now, instead. I've got a big pile of clothing and other crap. Things that I don't need, that I wasn't using etc. Some things I have no idea where I will put. I know that a significant number of boxes are books but I can't physically get to my bookcases yet. I'm going to unload the office bookcases first since they are set up the way they will be set up. I think. I have too many boxes to tell.

Overall, I really like my new place. It's going to be different. The layout is completely different. Things don't fit as well. Of course the good news is that I certainly don't need to buy a lot of furniture. Except maybe bookcases. Funny that.

It was great to sleep in my own bed. Though I don't think I slept for more than a few hours on Friday night. I couldn't shut down my brain.

Friday night was a New Member potuck dinner at my new synagogue. Since it was in our honor, us new members, we didn't have to bring anything. The food was great, particularly since it was the only thing I had eaten. I still can't find the stove under all the crap. I saw some people I knew. A real estate agent who has been very nice to me as well as a young woman that I had met at the NCJW (National Council for Jewish Women) event a couple of months ago. I had seen her during services at Rosh Hashanah but didn't have a chance to say hello. She roped me into volunteering with her next Sunday at the Jewish Food Festival. She's a very nice woman, a little different, I might actually add very different, but I like her. She gives off happy vibes.

On Friday, I had posted a note in the elevator letting people know that there was a move in and I invited people to drop in and say hello. The woman with the unit that abuts mine came by. Single. My age, nearabouts. I really liked her as well. I am excited to have a neighbor that will be willing to look out for me and vice versa. She has an adorable cat.

Speaking of cats, the former tenant kept the litter box in the bathroom linen closet. It stinks. Anyone have any recommendations? For that issue and the pigeon issue. Flying rats. And to think I used to like to feed them peanuts on Boston Commons. They use my balcony like their own personal outhouse. It's disgusting.

I suppose I should get home and undo some more boxes. I haven't gotten to the point where I can see all the boxes. Very scary. My parents arrive on Wednesday evening, so by next Sunday, I should be largely box-less. But I'd like to get a lot done on my own so they can spend time helping me decorate. I can't wait for them to see it.

My computer, phone and cable got hooked up yesterday. It took them three hours. Every single thing was a problem. But it works. I watched a DVD on my own TV last night. (While I unpacked, of course.) I did my first load of laundry. It was very exciting. I'm tired and sore and can't wait to be settled, but I'm here. It's real.

new apt, new life
