My first day to myself

Jul 29, 2006 20:35

Today was the first Saturday I've had to myself, no obligations, in ages. I didn't even set an alarm. Which meant that I was up by 6:30. It figured. But I had things to do today and an early start would be good. Today I planned on registering my car in Utah. I needed to get a safety and emissions inspections and then go to the Registry. There are places here that do nothing else but safety and emissions inspections. I think they charge more but I could find them. I had planned to go to Jiffy Lube but I couldn't find it.

It took no time at all and then it was off to the Registry. It really didn't occur to me that this was the last weekend of the month. It was mobbed. But I only had about a 40 minute wait. They were efficient and I got new plates. (Then it was off to the Dollar Store to buy a screwdriver to remove the old plates.) I can only hope getting a new driver's license will be as easy.

Then it was off to Circuit City to buy a GPS system. Note to anyone interested in doing this: You can't effectively test them in the store because you aren't moving! I feel badly for the young man who helped me. He had a lot of patience - a good thing because Utah addresses are special. For those who have never been here or lived here, nearly all addresses are coordinates. While I understand that conceptually, it's difficult to grasp when you are trying to input addresses. But I bought it anyway. http://www.garmin.com/products/sp340/ for anyone who cares. Once I hooked it up in the car, it was much easier to use.

Now that I was poor again, it was time to go home and unpack the last of my boxes. I still have more to put away but the boxes will all be in the garbage tomorrow. I spent some time on the phone with a colleague who needed my help.

For dinner I decided I was desperate for Sushi so I tried Ichiban Sushi. This was in SLC proper. My verdict, decent but expensive. I won't rush back. There are others to try. I will be disappointed if I can't find one really good sushi restaurant.

Tomorrow is tourist day. Though I may be stopping at Best Buy to buy a new monitor. But tomorrow is all about The Utah Museum of Fine Arts. I may also stop by the library to get a permanent library card. I just looked up a bunch of books I want. It seems that not many people put books on hold. They are going to get to know me well. Later this week I can get a card for the county system. All new things to get excited about!!

moving, new life
