I love doing new things. Suggestion included!

I'll be blunt: I generally suck at thinking of things to get people for their birthdays, because I figure they already have a lot of the things they really want. Therefore, I try and think of experiences they might not have had -- and possibly myself by proxy -- to introduce them to.

Tonight, I got to do just that. Because Draco and Mitty's b-days are rather close (within a couple weeks of each other), I just wrapped them up into one event and took them out to do something I've been wanting to do for months: see dinner theatre! Specifically, a murder mystery. Sadly, it seems not people know what that is anymore. Basically, while you eat, a show is put on where someone is killed, and both the characters and the audience try to figure out who and why. After tonight, it makes me sad how unknown this sort of event is in this day and age.

I found out about the local troupe through the joys of Google and was given these guys' info -- http://www.whodunnitky.com/ -- and made reservations for tonight, and we just got back half an hour ago. First off, the building it was in was MUCH more swank than I was expecting, which was a wonderful touch. I felt really good to have honored the dress code! :P

I was admittedly rather surprised when the cast started conversing with guests in-character before the first course was even served; I figured they'd wait a while. Excellent food was had by all -- we even got Draco to eat salad! We had spaghetti for the main course, which was kewl, and for dessert was a REALLY rich brownie cake.

And all three of us totally got the murderer wrong. We didn't plan on somebody FAKING their own death to get at someone else. :P

All in all, an awesome night was had. I HIGHLY recommend other people checking out a murder mystery show in their local town.
