I've been thinking about my Matty character. Matty, who I threw into the role just to deliver a joke, was based on a Thundercats OC that I never got around to writing a story for. His name was Phineas.
He was originally gay as all outdoors and proud of the fact and ended up paired with WilyKat (both were about 16), who also had a sexual relationship with Phin's sister Claudia. (Kat was bi)
So I figured, what the hell, I'll draw Phin.
As I'm sketching, Phin's story starts to change.
Instead of being an ocelot adopted by a sabertooth noble, I made him a dirktooth sabertooth.
In the ThunderCats fandom, characters with more animalistic features are called throwbacks and are generally believed to be bigger and stronger than 'normal' Thunderians. Sabertooths are widely accepted to be the biggest and strongest Clan, so I wondered if they could have the opposite of a big, hulking throwback; a small, effete sensitive man.
'Dirktooth' is a real variety of sabertoothed cat that was smaller and had smaller teeth than the sabertoothed tiger we're all familiar with.
So I made a 'reverse throwback' a dirktooth. And Phin here is still gay and has the hots for kat, but now he's trying to hide his sexuality because he feels like he's enough of a dissappointment to his family with his 'condition'. Kat I threw in there just for a reaction. If I sketch more, I might change his character design.
