In the middle of the 72hr written portion of my candidacy exam. Two questions, max of 20pp/5000 words. Just finished the first question at about 2800 words (it asked if a modern audience could appreciate medieval sententiousness, and I argued that our view of medieval culture as sententious is flawed and that a modern audience would appreciate it as much as a medieval one did). Can't quite tell if my answer is simple and elegant or overly simplistic and not to the point. I'll have to look at it again tomorrow. That 2800 words is about 9pp double-spaced, which is ridiculous. I feel like I haven't said much of anything at all.
Tomorrow I'm going to be writing about environmentalism in medieval hunting.
