So this past weekend was interesting........Saturday we had a show at Henderson HS, it was early, so we only had about 2 hours to rehearse before we left. They had 2 decent runs, so we get to the show, and they basically had their worst run to date. Drops and almost no performace from anyone. So time for awards, somehow they won, by a point over the next guard. I mean I know WHS is trained, b/c I am the one that did it, but it just shocked me. Feedback from the judges was positive, despite the show. So I talked to the kids and told them, that the show that happened today can never happen again, and that it should serve as a reminder of what not to do. After the show, we got back to WHS and I told the kids they had to be in bed by 11pm, b/c they had a show at Highland the next day. I went out with Sam, we had a fun night, went out to dinner, shopped at the Deptford Mall, and then we went back to his apartment to make food for the judges meeting the next day. Came home and went to bed. Then I got up for rehearsal before our show at Highland. Had a long talk with the guard. I told the weapons that if they did not catch their tosses today, that I was going to bump everything down. Got to the show before it started. Was in the gym with Lauren, who teaches Highland, and Ed walks up to us and says that we are judging Cadet class and we needed to find a 3rd person. So we went and got Billy from Triton. It was fun, it was only one guard, and they were cute. Got back to the room and finished stretching the guard. Then we went and helped Gateway onto the floor. They had a good run. Then it was time for us to go into rotation. Went rather well. then it was performance time. They threw down their best performance yet. Everything was SO on. It was so awesome to watch them. So scores came out, I was pissed. Score went down, 2 judges blew it. There was over a 2 point gap between the 2 GE judges, and we were lower in EA, when we had a higher score the day before with a worse show. I just know that next week hopefully things will start happening. I told the kids they were rewarded for a bad show on Saturday and unrewarded on Sunday for a great show. I told them not to worry and then in the next couple weeks everything will turn out alright. Putting in some more changes for this weekend, more body and maybe changing some work. This Saturday is such a late show. We are not leaving til like 4pm, and I might start rehearsal later so the kids can rest a little more and not to wear them out in rehearsal. I am really pleased with what they have done so far. I only have 9 kids and I am in the top 10 of Scholastic Novice, which is an extremely tough class this year. They are holding their own VERY well. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next couple weeks.
I guess this is it for right now. I should go to bed, I have an 8:30 class.
The best part of my weekend was talking to Ryan on the phone, I really missed our talks!
